Groundskeeper Silly posted:Are there any other examples to support the claim that "best-of" means something else with more than two teams/players? Inductive reasoning, I suppose. Think of it this way: a few people ITT have said that a best-of-seven series could go 3-0-0 and have a contestant take the tournament by winning four in a row to make it 3-4-0. So what about when the second contestant merely ties it and the third contestant stages the comeback? Now you're 3-3-4. I think we can all agree that such a tournament must not have been a best-of-seven series in the first place, right? Edit: If the win condition is X games and there are N contestants, then the maximum number of games played, Y, will be Y = (X - 1) * N + 1. Solve this for X and you get X = (Y - 1)/N + 1 to get how many games you need to win when you know the number of contestants and the maximum number of games. CPColin posted:Inductive reasoning, I suppose. I agree that wouldn't make it a best of seven series. Winning it 3-0-0 doesn't make it a best of seven series either. Hence why it's stupid to call it Best of 7 and could just be called First to Win 3. Because First to 3 makes sense because that's what it is. Next time I'm hanging out with my friends I'm going to challenge them to a Best of 4 series and then declare victory if I win 2 games in a row.

It’s always hilarious when there’s the tenor of what’s supposed to be some even debate about something going on, but in reality it’s literally just a single person against like a dozen and that single person cannot just take a step back from the “clearly it’s everyone else who is wrong” position.

I gasped out loud at that final reveal. I thought for sure the tournament was about to end. Good for Sam! Edit: After reading some discussion, Amy's bet makes more sense. She was making sure that Andrew wasn't able to get a 3rd win no matter what else happened. Jokymi fucked around with this message at 01:07 on Nov 19, 2022 |

Yeah, plus they've had some nasty questions and triple stumpers so being cautious probably makes more sense. Still a surpise though. Really cool that Sam got to win one especially after being down $2,800 at the start. Hell of a comeback.

Hell of a game today. I love Sam's "may I please see the final clue?" After doing the "Give it to me!" a few other times in this tournament.

the fact there are two tournaments going on at the same time - I really like the "best of 7" then immediately back to the ongoing game. But I still think the tournament still goes a little too long for what used to be 10 games. The 2-Day Accumulation is only for Second Chance, and I think that's fantastic. The Celebrity Jeopardy Triple Jeopardy is still a little sluggish, but I don't know if that's just the show pausing for "banter" or Mayim's hosting style. I feel it needs to be more of a "season finale" instead of a midpoint, but it made for more dramatic moments, especially in final Jeopardy compared to a runaway game in a 2-day total. I wonder if the show is good as it is, or does it need all these changes?

The Triple Jeopardy setup for Celebrity Jeopardy is just terrible. Either do 2 full games or just do one 30 minute episode and get more celebrities/shorten the tournament. Or get people who can at least do funny banter if you're going to slow the game down to a crawl. Maybe they did I stopped watching after the first couple of games were so bad. Celebrity Wheel of Fortune had Kristen Schaal and Ron Fuches on for a game and the banter managed to actually be funny, so I assume it is possible.Zero One posted:Congratulations Amy! I actually managed to guess it from the category for once which was interesting for a Tournament of Champions question. But I also figured that the pool of plays that they could draw on was shallow. Still did a little laugh when I saw 1864 and Washington and was happy that I said it out loud for psychic credit . Happy for Amy and happy that Sam at least got to win one. Also really cool that it was a series of competitive games. Hope they stick with the First to 3 system, it kept it a lot more interesting. I've loved this Tournament of Champions so much. It might be because I was fine with any of the three winning. They seemed to have such great camaraderie, with each other and Ken.

It seemed awfully convenient to me that the interview segment for the very last game of the tournament was about who the contestants wanted to thank. That's usually how it goes in tournaments. However, they also usually know exactly how many games a tournament is going to have ahead of time. What if this tournament ended after game 4 or 5 and they never got a chance to thank people? They couldn't just do the interview segments out of order, because then the contestants would be wearing the wrong clothes. Maybe they taped similar segments for game 4 and 5 but didn't use them because it wasn't the last game?

at the international dota tournament its a double round robin and they call the 2-game sets each team plays against each other "best of two". haven't read any posts, hope this helps!

It didn't seem as though any of them were terribly upset at the result so maybe the vibes were very positive and they were all able to record some very happy and earnest comments just fine

Hunting for Daily Doubles to deny them to other players and then sitting back (because they can't possibly catch up to you if you correctly guess the DD) is a legitimate strategy. I know Jeopardy is a game show but it kinda annoys me when people play that way. Just a personal preference: I prefer the chiller style of an Amy or Sam Buttrey.

As someone who grew up in Montana, I didn't like the way the final was worded. Yellowstone County is the most populous county in the state but it does not border the park and Billings is definitely not a tourist destination.

It was probably college football, that pre-empted things in my area. I'm not sure if it's to link it, but there's at least one correct "jeopardy november 25 2022" on YouTube. You can spot the real one by Ken's tie in the thumbnail being different from the others.

Jeopardy should do a Black Friday special where they open the studio doors at 5am and whoever from the crowd of hundreds stampedes to the podiums first gets to play
