I hope the industry's obsession with making every AAA game open world dies soon. Just like Sw/Sh, the open world in this game is bland, tedious, and ugly. Hidden items and TMs being scattered randomly across fields that you just drive over and aimlessly collect is certainly a design decision that you can make.

Any recent games that play well on handheld? Gonna be traveling a decent amount over the couple of months.

I was thinking Tunic or Live a Live but you never know what actually runs well.

For some reason Scarlet took way longer to boot up when I played it this morning. And I swear the graphics look waaay more jagged and bad compared to last night. They look worse than Sword now. I don't know what happened. But I'm hoping it's just another bug and I didn't just hallucinate it looking decent before.

live a live runs pretty well on handheld in portable mode.

if you want a big jrpg xenoblade 3 runs pretty well in handheld mode, there's some draw distance issues but it keeps a pretty steady fps in my experience. triangle strategy had some occasional slowdown when big spells went off but nothing major. those two'd be my recommendations of stuff ive played recently

The only saving grace is that even though I buy tons of games, I almost never pay full price and end up selling them for 50%+ of their value.

I’ve been playing persona 5 entirely I. Handheld and it runs really well to me. I played the original on ps4 and can barely tell the difference honestly. Runs much better than SMT5

It's not so so recent but you can't beat Triangle Strategy. It's a fantastic game on handheld and really needs several playthroughs to go through.

Yeah, even if you were to do the hidden “best” ending on the first run, which is actually kinda hard at the end even on easy, there are a handful of fights you’ve missed and characters too, plus a whole shitload of plot.

I can’t remember if it was in the PSP version, but the AI settings for Reborn have been a lifesaver for this. I usually set the AI to run through obviously filler fights or fights with no special conditions to satisfy.

I was able to show reproduceable slowdowns if I just moved to the right side of my room in the new pokemon. Every single time.

I also was able to clip the camera by interacting with an object (which zooms in the camera) and then the camera could clip through walls.

This was within the first minute.

I also noticed the fps drops and slow load times over the pop in.

I feel like you shouldn't be able to sequence break but I got physically to the school before the quest to meet the NPC at the lighthouse. But you can anyway because you can single target a far away Pokémon and teleport to the nearest land mass, which also means potentially the whole map is unlocked to you from the first time you get a pokemon.

That almost redeems the lovely inconsistent frame rate and texture work.

The UI is better (though it apes mid 2000s Apple conventions; loading icon is the apple beachball, the pokedex is the Apple Books shelf UI design, etc) and the animations are slightly better.

Story is absolutely dumb though, worse than shield imo. Pokemon designs so far are insipid and lazy, recolors and maybe an extra body part isn't interesting content. The box art snake dude is cool, his textures are hands down ten times more detailed than the hounddoom that shows up, or other Pokémon.

Huh? Are we playing the same game? This is the first mainline Pokémon game with an interesting story since Ruby/Sapphire.

They don't, actually, it's based on the number of badges. I tried skipping ahead from the 2nd gym to the 7th to make my wild-caught level 50s to obey me, but that didn't work.

Speedruns of this game are going to be so broken in a couple months.

I think there's something in the avatar animators that isn't toggling masking right in Pokemon S/V. It's potentially even just ONE setting that's meant to control animations blending between regular walk/idle animations and the "I am doing a pose/animation" stuff (eg; riding your pokemon or posing for a photo), and it's just not locking/releasing the animation masking like it's supposed to.

I wonder if there's some sort of sensor in the joycon there that checks the colour you have, and then tags it with that?

I've never changed a joycon skin, though, so anyone who has, feel free to chime in and debunk this.

And it made one-eighth the difference.
I’m pretty sure you can connect Joycons to your PC and use a program to change what color the Joycon thinks it is. I imagine there’s a tiny bit of storage in there, maybe similar to how Amiibo store data.

Commander Keene

Faster than the others

Yeah, I'd imagine it's just a byte or so of data that the joycons send to the Switch which tells the Switch what color the joycons are. You could swap the shells and the joycons would still tell the Switch they were the same color unless you also changed that data.

Here's the program: https://github.com/CTCaer/jc_toolkit/releases/tag/5.2.0
It can also change the colors displayed on a pro controller, but there was a firmware update a couple years after the last release that makes it a little more complicated.
