Slow News Day posted:Yeah, it's pretty crazy if you think about it. It's almost as if the devs want to make really, really sure that the overwhelming majority of their player base has lost interest and moved on to other games before they release new content. It's bewildering, frankly. It's almost as if they haven't heard the phrase "strike while the iron is hot." they did, succeeded beyond their wildest dreams, and have now settled into making a fun game at their own pace. if nothing ever comes out im already happy with my purchase, and whenever mistlands drops it will be fun to revisit.

I've done three full playthroughs with my son (#2 and #3 with mods) and Mistlands should be dropping with just enough of a gap to make it exciting and fresh again. Probably had even more value from this than the $7 Witcher 3 GotY I snagged. Wish they had that persistent/shared server thing that Grounded has though. That's one big feature that can't be modded out.

iirc Valheim you have dedicated servers that you and your buddies can join at any time. Typically you gotta pay per month for these. You can also do a private server, but the host has to be present for anyone else to play on that world. In Grounded, they have a "shared" server which is cloud-saved and any members can act as the host. I can see why it wouldn't be great for pvp survival games but for a pve group that plays at varying times and with different players it's great to not require that one host to always be present. VV yeah that's a better explanation. Also Grounded is really good if you're into the genre! acumen fucked around with this message at 23:54 on Nov 21, 2022 |

There's an option for a Cloud based save in which anyone in a group can load up the world to play. In doing so the first person to load it up becomes the "host" of that session, and even if no one else joins once they're done with that session it'll upload the updated save to the cloud and anyone else can just grab it and host the next session. Basically means you can't be screwed by your usual host not being on. edit: efb

So say as long as my PC is on my friends can play on the same world without me being around?

I did this when I first started playing and the only real issue I had was a second or two lag glitch when the world auto save occurred. Nine times out of ten no biggie, but every once in a while it would happen when fighting something and I'd get turned around. So I moved it off to my NAS server in a container. Recommend

Last time I played was just as the first update came out. Is there a good QoL modpack now or do I still need to download them piecewise? I looked at the one for pushing/pulling from nearby containers and it hasn't been updated in a year and a half, so I'm wondering if mods are no longer being maintained/are now under a common banner somewhere/have been integrated into the base game. Also, are there more options for transporting ore now or is it still a combination of sailing + slowly lugging a cart around?

# ? Nov 22, 2022 19:05 |

Valheim Plus does pretty much everything, you configure it to do what you want in notepad or whatever. Not sure what you'd even mean by options for transporting ore besides modding to allow you to teleport it (Plus can do that also) but no, carts and boats are it in the vanilla game.

holy poo poo there's some stuff in these patch notes... weapons and skills spoilers below there's new elemental and blood magic skills with two new weapons each which require something called Eitr to work, which you can get from food and potions maybe? Staff of frost and staff of embers use elemental magic whereas staff of protection and dead raiser use blood magic. dead raiser!! and there's crossbows now! And a two handed sword and dual wielded knives, and even fuckin ballistas for base defense? yes please.

I spent 2 hours sailing, trying to find some mistlands and once I found them, I spent about 10 minutes exploring them. Anyway, the new biome looks gorgeous (or what I saw in the mist) and I found some friendly dwarf village. Mistlands seem quite cool so far.

There is a mod called Upgrade Worlds that me and my crew used to spawn H+H plus Cult of the Wolf stuff and it worked perfectly. Its just a simple console command that populates all areas, explored or not, with new content. If youre attached to your exisiting world like we are, this is a solution I highly reccomend once they update the mod to work with Mistlands.

Vord posted:Can I use an existing world or do I need to start a new one for mistlands to appear? You can do either, but using an existing one means you have to go find a new Mistlands area that you haven't uncovered. The game will not put the new stuff in places you've already been. There are mods that allow you to generate new content on discovered areas but I haven't tried that.

Perfect. I haven't explored much past the plains in my current game and have mostly stuck to around the center of the world beyond the travel required to find boss spawn locations. Followup question. Are there any mods or console commands that can reset the worlds progression and dungeons?

On the other hand, one of the devs mentioned that mistlands generated in old worlds are more "compact" with interesting locations less spread out.

I found the ingredients to at least know what most of the new recipes do and they aren't nearly as much of an upgrade as I thought they might be. They are definitely better, But I don't think anybody's going to be getting rid of their bread, some of the new stuff can be farmed but most of it can't. Oh, You're going to want to make sure that you have plenty of gold if you are putting the update in an existing save. One of the new items is almost double the cost of any previous item.

I haven't jumped on the mistlands open testing yet but I will soon, in the meantime I had to finish my plains base. I had done most of it except the moat/entrances a while back but lost interest since it was my 2nd playthrough and I had burned through all the new stuff back then. Aerial overview: Downstairs, storage, cooking, and crafting is all here: Upstairs, bed/tub, portal room, and trophy/gear showcase, will probably stuff the mistlands crafting tables up here too: Closeup of the walls/outside area, I have workbenches stuffed in the wall to stop spawning without looking horrible:
