Remember how Corbyn was castigated in the press for sticking to a planned constituency surgery (what he is paid to do) instead of swanning off to a boring, and probably freebie, rugby match like the rest of the scroungers. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/the-real-reason-jeremy-corbyn-missed-the-rugby-10509860.html Page snipe: me again. Literally why would he bother going to a Sun gig. They're never going to do anything other than castigate him. What's the point?

If it comes to the election time and labour have a healthy poll lead the Sun will back them. The Sun wants to back the winner, doesn't matter who.

It would be a PR nightmare if he dodged that. gently caress, Sunak was there and was photoed with two award winners of 'best nurse' and 'best midwife'. I have a question about the solidarity fund? My son spends 3 days a week at a charity group for people of all ages with learning disabilities. It is run by volunteers on a shoestring, like they are using an old wii out of a charity shop lack of funding. The fridge they use so that they can bring in the stuff for a hot meal at lunch just died - would the fund cover a replacement fridge for them?

As mentioned above, the fund is there for individual goons where a grant of money would assist them through whatever situation is causing them difficulty at that time. We have had someone request that we donate funds to another charity in the past, which we had to decline.

Friday afternoon Wikipedia deep dive. What's your favourite accidental cause of death for an MP? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Records_of_members_of_parliament_of_the_United_Kingdom#Members_of_Parliament_who_have_been_accidentally_killed I'm a big fan of Sir William Keyt, 3rd Baronet d.1741 (house fire caused by himself when insane) but I also have a lot of time for Lord Richard Barry, 7th Earl of Barrymore d.1793 (accidentally shot himself while escorting French prisoners of war)

An absolutely glorious number of hunting deaths. "Strange though it may seem, Gallwey is not the only MP whose death involved a turnip..." quote:In November 1833 the Whig MP for Huddersfield, Lewis Fenton, elected for his native borough during a riotous contest the previous year, fell from one of the upper windows of his home at Spring Grove. He landed in the courtyard below at around 8:30 a.m., and died later that morning from his injuries. Press reports suggested that there was ‘considerable mystery’ surrounding the circumstances of his death, hinting at suicide, but the ensuing inquest returned a verdict of accidental death. As Fenton’s widow explained to the surgeon who tended him, Fenton had been in the habit of going into the attic to look at ‘a piece of ground where some turnips were growing, to see that none of his cows were trespassing in it’. He had apparently over-balanced while standing on a chair to look out of the window. Other evidence showed that Fenton had been in a cheerful mood the evening before his death, when he had drafted a speech for a forthcoming meeting regarding a testimonial to the anti-slave trade campaigner William Wilberforce. EDIT: This wasn't actually listed in the article, though it was on his wiki page, so I've rectified this. Freudian fucked around with this message at 18:01 on Nov 25, 2022 |

My baby dehumidifier arrived this afternoon, it's been on 1 hr so far and is beginning to show collected water. It's only 22.5W so will take almost 2 days to use a whole unit of electricity. The capacity (30C 80% RH) is up to about 300ml in a day (a can of drink). I'm using it at approx 18C and no idea what RH but the air in the flat feels damp and towels not drying over 24 hours. Will report back. Cost £30 + £3.95 p&p from B&M Stores. Blaupunkt compact dehumidifier.
