Anyways, not gonna make a full AOTY list yet, but some real standouts from this year include:

Pure Wrath - Hymn to the Woeful Hearts
Pillaging Villagers - Pillaging Villagers
Disfuneral - Blood Red Tentacle
Nite - Voices of the Kronian Moon
Blind Guardian - The God Machine (Hell yeah babeyyyy)
Riot City - Electric Elite
Avatarium - Death, Where Is Your Sting

I've never bothered with ranking individual songs before, but this time I'm just about ready to declare the title track from that last one as Song of the Year, because holy poo poo it's been using my head as its luxury penthouse for weeks now.

i use last.fm to track my spotify and bandcamp listens. this year, the album i listened to most so far is blood incantation's timewave zero. something about it really struck a chord with me and i can/do listen to it in almost any condition. so soothing and invigorating and ethereal. i love it.

funny tho bc i dont really like BI's actual dm stuff. it's fine but i prefer listening to other dm styles.

Huh, Dimmu released a remastered version of Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia, which is an amazing album. It feels richer, fuller and less cold, with the orchestra and piano more upfront. The vocals are also clearer and bass drums are definitely more beefy and warmer. I don't think there was anything wrong with the original, but I've enjoyed revisiting the album anyway.

Song sounds pretty good, so far the production seems a little more lively than the last one. (That was like the polar opposite of St. Anger -- just sample-overdubbed the life out of the drums completely)

New song is alright. It’s Metallica doing a Motorhead song with more vocal hooks and a Hammett solo. It works but didn’t really stand out to me. I do generally like what they’ve been doing over the last few albums at least.

Seeing “Pantera” and Metallica would kick rear end but good lord the rest of those openers are beyond dreadful
