Weird what-if: what if the case doesn't get appealed? Like, I know Jones will want to appeal... but are his lawyers gonna continue sticking their heads in the woodchipper? If he's on lawyer 17 now, at some point, there might not be any lawyers left that will take his calls.

Would that leave the law in limbo where it's not struck down because this judge doesn't have that authority?

I don't know TX procedure so I can't say for sure, but typically if a part of a statute is found unconstitutional, there is appeal to the supreme court of the state. Appealing on that ground alone will certainly happen. To appeal the rest of the judgment, Jones will need to post a bond equal to the compensatory damages plus costs and interest unless he files competent evidence with the court showing that his net worth is less than that.

Still crazy that this made Alex Jones come across as a somewhat reasonable figure especially for people who aren't that familiar with him. That's something I worry about.

not really

i mean, he is very, very bankrupt, declaring bankruptcy is his only real option. honestly if i were him, i would have been living large on my money until the CT court froze it and then filed, but perhaps he needed to get his BK attorney paid before that happened

I have to say I'm surprised Jones tried to say the Holocaust happened or at least implied it. Considering how much he "dogwhistles" (more like outright says it) about the Jews, you'd think he'd be a holocaust denier as well.

The fun angle that i have seen coming up the most about the holocaust lately with nazis and holocaust deniers(ie: nazis) is nitpicking over the amount killed, and how this concentration camp only had this many ovens so how could they possibly have burned that many bodies

And of course the only source cited was “i went to auschwitz and counted the ovens”.

So i think the holocaust denial folks have at least temporarily given up on saying it didn’t happen at all, but are nowadays trying to muddy the waters with bullshit about lying about the total

Its just that old quote about how antisemites will say anything that is politically advantageous to win the argument, and dont believe anything specific other than their racism

Yeah, Jones’ personal bankruptcy was an inevitable situation. He’s personally on the hook for over a billion and a half and definitely doesn’t have it even if he has a few hundred million.

Yes his finances are going to be scrutinized, but not really more than they were before. This shields his house and studio plus some other things from collections even if he cannot discharge the judgments against him.

I didn't even think about that. That makes way more sense than Jones not being a holocaust denier considering how much he despises the jews.

Holocaust denial/"questioning"(ughhh) has always been multi-level and complex, going right back to George Lincoln Rockwell, the Ur Holocaust Denier. They have their position (anti-Semitism) and will argue for it as strongly as they think they can get away with as the situation allows. And if those weaker arguments are incompatible with their larger claim that the HoloHoax was actually a conspiracy to destroy the Sacred Whites, well, it's not like personal consistency was ever part of the brand.

Basically, they've always been nit-picking the numbers but you tend to only notice when they're on the back foot for a moment.

Yep, this. There’s a meme that regularly gets posted when someone(like me, yesterday) stupidly gets into a twitter argument with a nazi. I will only say that both i and the guy i was arguing with turned on the full fledged nazi who joined the argument and we told him to gently caress himself

Unforch the other guy was arguing mostly that nazi is a label applied too easily these days and i said “lol do you not know who nick fuentes is”, and he said “no i do not, is that relevant”

that is a reasonable amount to give to a lawyer for a retainer for what is certain to be a hotly contested bankruptcy over tens to hundreds of millions of dollars

This is an incredibly interesting but hosed up movie. The holocaust denial doesn't even make it into the trailer.

I lived in Toronto at that time and used to picket (e: neonazi publisher / organizer) Ernst Zundel's home / clubhouse so when he popped into the movie it just about blew my mind.
