Someone in my family is thinking about spending a year on a retirement visa somewhere cheap, and they asked me to help them look up Cambodia. I guess since this thread is for mildly Asia-related topics, this gave me a good chuckle. https://www.reddit.com/r/cambodia/comments/vl8a5b/how_to_tell_a_good_strong_woman_from_a_multi_sex/ quote:How to tell a good strong woman, from a multi sex woman? Non-vented work goggles exist that aren't as bulky; look at the Honeywell Carbonvision goggles for example. I think it was China that published a study early on that glasses wearers seemingly got infected a third as often, all else being equal, noting that people were wearing masks (albeit the very leaky sort). There's also the recent contact tracing study from the USA I think, that genetically traced a veterinarian's COVID infection to the cat patient that had sneezed in her eyes. She was wearing an N95. By the way the latter is one of those rare examples of disease actually spreading the way governments say it does anytime there's an epidemic, as opposed to the way engineers and scientists demonstrate and visualize: more like record-breakingly big vape smoke clouds that hang around and accumulate for each exhale. Coming disproportionately from certain rare (super)spreader individuals; which explains why big crowds are such a bad thing, and how some foolish people manage to miss infection even after many risky days of smaller meetings with positives. \/\/ Nice! The best result. maxwellhill fucked around with this message at 11:56 on Dec 10, 2022 |

I wouldn't worry about goggles unless you're frequently within spitting distance of unmasked people, your wet orbs get just a tiny fraction of the particles compared to your breathways. The most important part is consistency and a good seal, I've gone three years without any sickness so far, the only major sacrifice being indoors eating.

Everything will be fine with or without masks because the government just sent me a text listing the brand name TCM products I can buy to treat covid at home. I have a disproportionate amount of annoyance for the government text messages telling me to buy poo poo. I don't care if they force me to get the texts about fire safety or the reminders that phone fraud is illegal, I guess. But gently caress, I have to get your messages I can't turn them off don't send me actual spam.

I'm only at 3 so far but it's a cool cross section of very different people. Foreign dude, 8 year old with a "you should probably go to the hospital" fever, and old rural guy. Was at the pharmacy today and a guy started coughing, one of those deep, obviously sick coughs. I have never seen so many people scatter so fast in every direction.

It’s going to be a mass death event. It’s not as bad of one as it would have been if it’d broken before any vaccines, but I’m not sure what else you could call something that will likely kill a good 1.4 million people over the next year or so. That’s assuming a death rate of 1/1000, which is around the current per capita death rate from COVID in Hawaii which did the best out of all the US states, so feels pretty erring on the side of under. But it could be closer to India which they’ve estimated at about 4 million deaths.

My elderly and staunchly anti communist in-laws are super happy about the government backing off on all of the controls and probing. Things have been real upsetting for them recently and with good reason. Unfortunately their usually rad defiance in regards to the CCP also convinced them that because the government is bad and lies to you that they must be lying about vaccines and those must be bad too. Really not looking forward to having to plan out their funerals a decade earlier than expected.

Just one more hassle to deal with now that testing locations have nearly all disappeared. I'm already wondering how long China will keep the borders closed at this point. CNY is coming up and I think they might start letting people out of China after that after they start making deals with airlines to ramp up flights. I'm moving back to Asia for a new teaching early next year and I'm starting to get a little sweaty at the idea of having to deal with Mainland tour groups everywhere I go again.
