ive never hear of the show until the last 3-5 years when twitter seemingly decided it was a masterpiece and wouldnt stop talking about it for a while. i know nothing about it other than its about a small town mystery. I think psyche did a parody episode but i honestly dont know enough about twin peaks or remember enough of the episode to confirm

I would kinda like to timetravel back to 1990 when everything was mushy melodramas then in comes this weirdfuck Twin Peaks thing that was melodramatic as gently caress and deeply, deeply weird. 3-4 times in every episode of The Return I'd let out a giggle and a "fuckin david lynch" for some weird scene, or a weird bit of camera work that held on so long it got deeply uncomfortable, or some random thing with a deeper meaning that we're never going to know ever. And I would've likely missed it all if it wasn't for the Alan Wake series and this specific video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_k9iJMVU18

Twin Peaks is legit good, and even the "bad" parts of season 2 are still good, just that the actual mystery had been solved by then so it's more just "slice of life" and giving an explanation for why everything happened. And then you get the final episode, and the batshit train starts rolling again. And doesn't stop. It's still rolling.

Dennis Miller went right wing but it was much less of a moral quandary to still watch him because he simultaneously forgot how to tell a joke and leaned hard into his worst habits. Most other right wing comedians are, let's face it, less capable even in their best days. Tim Allen, Jeff Dunham, Bill Engvall, Rob Schneider? Yeah, you're not losing much. Norm could make you fidget because he believed some dumb poo poo too, but it was easier to stomach because you also knew upfront that he was an rear end in a top hat and his jokes were very simple (but beautifully crafted) things. Chappelle is another issue entirely, because he absolutely remembers how to tell a joke, and tell a story, and build multiple layers of things to a point, but he's been amazingly rich so long he got brainwormed and now just does it to piss people off. The big anti-trans special of his was pretty unfunny throughout most of it because he abandoned one of his oldest tricks- poking at a side, then immediately jumping viewpoints and poking at the other to undermine them. It turned into a rant, like the last few Carlin specials when you could tell the bitterness was overwhelming the craft.

Honestly the only thing I can remember about Schneider now is him yelling "you can do it" in various movies and being a POS landlord at the beginning of Grandma's Boy. I didn't realize he modeled himself after the landlord.

He did a lot of garbage movies though, without Sandler & Co, and I thought that pretty well trashed his reputation, like that south park clip implies. I thought he just kinda got on the boat that Pauly Shore boarded in 1998 or so and sailed off to the island of overrun gimmick comics. Pauly Shore is still a decent guy though, right? Like, I haven't seen an interview with the guy that's offputting or politically charged. I get that he runs the Comedy Store now, since his mother died, but he had a real low period there and faded out. I really thought Schneider was on a similar path, not "shunned for politics" or whatever.

What the gently caress https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-63946771 Arizona’s governor is creating a border wall with shipping containers Resistance is mounting to a controversial plan from Arizona's governor to build a wall of shipping containers along the US-Mexico border. The makeshift barrier is being built by Governor Doug Ducey in his waning days in office. Construction began earlier this year, with Mr Ducey saying it was an attempt to "secure" the border. Critics say the project unlawfully cuts through tribal and federal lands. With just weeks left until Mr Ducey leaves office, work crews operating along Arizona's eastern border with Mexico have been making progress on the barrier, which consists of double-stacked shipping containers and razor wire. That progress has recently been slowed by days of protests from environmental groups, who say that the barrier poses a danger to native species and natural water systems in the region. Incoming governor Katie Hobbs has yet to decide what to do with the containers. In Arizona's Santa Cruz county, Sheriff David Hathaway said that he plans to arrest construction crews working on the barrier if they reach his county. "The area where they're placing the containers is entirely on federal land, on national forest," Mr Hathaway told local news station Fox 10. "It's not state land, it's not private land, and the federal government has said this [is] illegal activity." The BBC has reached out to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office for comment. Still, the initiative has the support of the sheriff of nearby Cochise county, who said in a statement that he believes it will "deter crime and stop criminal behaviour". Federal agencies have called the barrier unlawful and ordered state officials to stop the work. In response, in late October, Mr Ducey filed a lawsuit claiming that the state has the right to take action to put an end to an "unprecedented crisis" in which "countless migrants" are crossing the border. "The result is a mix of drug, crime, and humanitarian issues the state has never experienced at such a significant magnitude," the lawsuit reads. The federal government is asking for the lawsuit to be dismissed. The governor-elect, Ms Hobbs, has been opposed to the barrier but it's unclear if she plans to remove the containers after her inauguration on 5 January. While she had previously suggested that the containers would be re-used to create affordable housing options for low-income residents, last week she said she was looking at all options and warned that she "doesn't know how much it will cost to remove the containers and what the cost will be".

I can't be bothered to work it out again but the last time the "border wall" came up I worked out it's only practical if you diverted 100% of US steel production to it for 3 to 5 years. And that was for a crappy fence that anyone could squeeze though the bars of. It's a very silly idea. The only useful thing I learned from that was looking at your border with Mexico, there are chunks of it that are legally defined by where a river is, i.e. if the river changes its properties over time, so does the border! So so stupid.

He sent at least 95 messages of his own. The committee did not respond to requests for comment. Some of Meadows’ texts — notably with Fox News personalities and a couple members of Congress — have already been made public by the committee, media outlets, and in the book “The Breach.” However, the full scope of his engagement with congressional Republicans as they worked to overturn the election has not previously been revealed.
