I'm from the Boston area and don't generally have an accent except it will just randomly appear if I say certain words too fast. Like, I can't say Doc Martens the first time correctly, it's either "Dahk Mahtens" or "Dark Martins" and it's always embarrassing cause I dont speak like that normally

a dialect is when you can't understand it without trying super hard. so Cajun is a dialect but not an accent.

The distinguishing part of a crick is that it flowed thru a cow pasture. A particularly dedicated heifer can singlehandedly convert a perfectly good creek into a crick in a few days.

I once had a coworker that went to a pub in London and after taking his order, the bartender asked “so, Colorado or Wyoming?” My coworker said “Colorado, how’d you know?” and the bartender said “your accent gave it away, most American accents can be nailed down to a few states” Anyway that’s my accent story

A year before and we were getting in, getting bottled in Cork On television, Congress crying about abusing the pork I told the bartender we were all from New York Sometimes the path of least resistance will gain you the most More than trying to map the distance Up and down the East Coast When you're in Munich making music Raise your glass and say "Prost!" Make it easy on your host -Ted Leo, "Bottled in Cork"

I've lived in the Chicago area my whole life. A bunch of my friends, including my wife, grew up in the southwest suburbs, and I did not. I can tell if someone grew up in the southwest suburbs with like 99% accuracy.

I moved to Nebraska in middle school, and the locals were incredibly snotty about accents, which is hilarious coming from a place where "warsh" and "maysure" were still in circulation. Also "(grocery) sack" was loving ubiquitous, and that is some freak poo poo, I'm sorry
