Where are you reading or hearing this regarding the F-15EX?

F-15Es have dual-capability squadrons.

The F-15EX does not and there is no extant plan to do so. The F-15EX is replacing F-15Cs. It is also based on the modernized versions of F-15s that are built made for non-nuclear nations (Qatar, for example).

Do you have any source that claims the F-15EX is funded and designed to become a dual-capable B-61 carrier?

The F-35 seem to be a tradeoff for strike capability where you get a better shot at penetrating the enemy air space to drop your bombs for lighter bomb load. What I wonder is, since most countries seem to be getting less F-35 than they had whatever their previous planes was, how do they expect to keep the list of task to be done by their planes completed? Smaller weapon load would probably mean more flights to do the same task list but there would also be less total planes available. Is the F-35 supposed to be that much more of a workhorse?

to go back to what Ardennes was saying, yes, theoretically you could use the F-35 to make precision strikes on high value targets, such as the first steps in dismantling an air defense network, and then you can send in the less advanced aircraft now that the F-35s have made the airspace "more permissive", but the air forces that are buying the F-35 aren't doing that, because they're using the F-35 to "replace" aircraft with much larger bombloads

sure, use the F-35 to knock out the S-300s (or whatever) and then send in the Tornados with iron bombs afterwards, but you need the Tornados to still be on-hand for this to work. If you're scrapping the older jets and replacing them F-35s, and you have no "bomb trucks" left, you're just reducing your capacity straight-up

The reason the F-15EX program exists is to replace F-15C/D model aircraft, which are air superiority fighters that also serve an air defense role. It will have air to ground capability, but the primary mission is air to air combat.

The F-15E is specifically earmarked as a strike fihhter and a dual-capable strike fighter, able to carry nuclear gravity bombs. It has some air to air capability, but its primary role is as air to ground.

The government budget fielding document lays out F-15EX’s purpose:

I will help you become less confused. Take note that even while some F-15Es are dual-capable, not even all F-15Es are set up with that capability, and zero F-15EX's possess that capability.

On F-15Es and dual-capability
https://www.acc.af.mil/News/Article/2849457/f-15es-take-part-in-dual-capable-aircraft-nucwsep/
On dual-capability in general, and highlighting that not all F-15Es are dual-capable or ever intended to be
https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/pdfs/AD1038233.pdf
Here is the short version they write so that congress members can understand program purposes, scope, cost etc. It notes that the purpose of the F-15EX is to replace C/D models and does NOT replace the F-35's strike mission. Part of the F-35s strike mission is as a dual-capable aircraft, able to carry nuclear gravity bombs.
https://crsreports.congress.gov/product/pdf/IF/IF11521
Here is the update to congress from two months ago. It very specifically calls out that the F-15EX does not replace the F-15E and does not assume the F-15E mission set, nor the F-35 strike fighter mission set:
https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/23128914/air-force-f-15ex-eagle-ii-fighter-oct-11-2022.pdf

Here is what might have confused you. Note that this is all conjecture, based on zero funding or program plan:
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/35312/lets-talk-about-the-air-force-potentially-replacing-the-f-15e-with-the-f-15ex

quote:

A Justification and Approval (J&A) document lays out the USAF’s case for buying the F-15EX. It says: “The objective of this program is to rapidly develop, integrate, and field the F-15EX weapon system to refresh/replace aging F-15C/D aircraft. A decision to also refresh F-15E aircraft has not yet been made, but remains an option.”

...

There are no official plans to replace the F-15E when it is retired from service, and officially it could remain in service through life-extension programs.

tl;dr -
Ardennes, you likely just got confused about two different planes with different mission sets. Different planes do different things. The F-15EX is not currently slated to replace the F-15E, either in conventional use or in the dual-capable role. If that changes in the future, it would be a new development, with a new justification, with new future funding requirements.

Incidentally, just been looking at where the British army gets its artillery shells from and they appear to be manufactured at a single, not very big factory on the edge of Newcastle. Can't imagine there's much scope for ramping up production there lol.

Idk how much I am allowed to talk about this, though I already have ITT, but it’s been hilariously fraught with problems because the British Tories are captured by the MIC to the point where press releases about shell production read, in the copy in a way that gives away it’s not really about that.

Anyways I have production numbers from the international arms market reports but I should make sure they’re public before I post them. The figures suggest to me they almost had to go out of their way for it to be this limited since small WW1 plants produced more shells. They automated processes at this plant that probably made production slower but cut labour costs.
