I fight cars I work in the social services, and a lot of the people we work with have a lot of regrets. I've asked our case managers to have their clients come out and watch me fight. As I fight cars, time runs backwards. As I punch the mirror off a Subaru, your life runs in reverse. Scars becomes wounds become chances to exercise better judgement. I fight cars. Like most people, I enjoy fighting in the mornings, before it gets to hot. Unlike most people, I've been pushed over by a Honda Fit. I fight cars. Sometimes when I am fighting, I think of those zen fountains that absorb a drip drip drip of water down a bamboo tube before finally tipping over and dumping their contents into a pool. Each pebble I chuck at an F150 is another drip. I think, that fountain would call me a pussy. I fight cars. But I know where I have been. Six months ago, I didn't fight. Six months ago, I had heartburn bad enough to keep me from sleeping through the night. Six months ago, I waited to cross the street until there were no cars coming even when I had a crosswalk. And six months ago, fighting an Escalade felt impossible. I fight cars, and I have ways to go. But I can sleep. I feel alive. I can fight any motorized vehicle up to the size of a short bus, and I lose every time. Sometimes I get discouraged. I compare where I am to where other people are. But all that matters is where I am compared to where I was. Once something good becomes something you are going to do for the rest of your life, the pace becomes less important. I know that my drip drip drip will amount to that deluge, eventually. Someday I will fight a monster truck, and lose.

I was going for a bike ride once and had to cross a busy multi-lane road. There wasn't a cross walk so the only way to trigger the light was the sensor in the road. But the sensor wasn't picking me up and there weren't any other cars waiting with me so I was a bit stuck. Meanwhile a dude in a Jeep was talking on his phone in a nearby parking lot. I heard him say, "Hang on a minute." to whoever he was talking to then he pulled out of the parking lot and pulled up behind me to trip the sensor. He said he rides his motorcycle through here and that light never trips for him either. A rare good guy story for the thread.

Did a single one of Corbusier's buildings have a parking space for all the cars on all his loving freeways that went between them all at least FLW's US Acres or whatever just gave every single family a whole acre to store all their cars

Much like how the bechdel test was meant to highlight the near-total absence of lesbian characters in media by drawing attention to how few stories even have women interact at all, the bikedel test shows how few bicycles appear in popular art at all in order to make a further point about how maligned and marginalized cycling is.

I've weirdly started running into the opposite problem regularly: drivers stop their cars too far back so the intersection doesn't detect them and the signal doesn't change. Which normally would be funny, but if I'm biking on the same street and the intersection is only designed to detect the presence of cars.......frustrating! Why do drivers stop their cars more than a car's length away from the intersection?? Why do drivers??
