Necromunda: Hired Gun - mostly gangers and some genestealers
Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters - nurgle
Shootas, Blood & Teef - Imperium

Well vermintide 2 features a Nurgle+Skaven tag team.

Oceanic population counts on Steam are getting really noticeably small, even during peak periods ( I can't imagine the wasteland that would be Gamepass ). Looks like the playerbase has crystallised around Malice, I'm struggling to get random games at Heresy and running up a new Psyker in Sedition has been kind of lonely. A server browser would definitely be helpful for the longevity of the game.

Yeah I was having trouble finding matches recently one night AU TZ and I decided to just give up on the game until it's patched to at least the point where I don't crash 1-5 times loading into a match.

DRG doesn't crash like a drunk jeep driver and is actually a complete game, plus I started another Satisfactory game.

I guess I've been lucky post one of the early updates as my game only crashes on exit, and I've only had two games that were a bit laggy, and given I share my home network with two teenagers could have been something my end. My gripes stem from the resource grind and low population count due to my smaller region making Malice the most viable difficulty.

random thought I just had, if we do indeed get a Genestealer Cult as an enemy faction down the line, they should totally get weird with some of the higher end enemies, particularly the Monstrosity type enemies, like just imagine going through a level and as your blasting your way through a bunch of hybrids you suddenly hear the Monstrosity music start playing but instead of the expected more standard Genestealer or Tyranid beast, instead one of these guys comes bursting through the wall;

and yes I know the odds of them using something like the Zoats is very unlikely but it'd hardly be the deepest cut Fatshark has done with one of their Warhammer games

I reached a point in VT2 where there was just... nothing further to get. In fact I'm willing to bet there are a fair number of goons itt who have all the red weapons they'll ever want, red accessories and still find room to play the game once in a while.

The game is fun enough on its own to not really require +**progression**+, but its existence makes the gameplay less enjoyable, it's a really weird paradox.
I mean, people played (and still play) UT99 and Quake 3 and even the original Doom in multiplayer. There's no ranking points, no Thanos tie-in skins, no xp, no progression, no loot - the games are just fun and that's enough. Back in the day some friends and I played a lot of a UT mod called Invasion that was co-op PVE against giant hordes of AI enemies (ie the same basic idea as L4D or Vermintide) and it was great.

A lot of people have said it and it's not a new observation but "progression" for the sake of it has become a tickbox that games feel they have to mark. Either because everyone else is doing it, or because the analytics data really do suggest that it makes people play more, even if it also makes them like the game less in the process.

Either way it's kind of depressing.

I mean, the playerbases for all those games isn't exactly high.

Progression absolutely has been researched and it helps. Actually one of my big issues with today's games (which is probably a different conversation) but it feels like lots of games are tweaked entirely by stats and the fun takes a backseat.

Apex is my example for this. Game was fun when it came out and as it goes on they just make really weird design choices that seem to promote the unfun parts of the game.

That's cos they're 20+ years old. The fact that people still play them is testament to how good they are.

Yeah, this is the thing. I certainly buy that progression "helps" if by "helps" we mean "keeps player counts high and looks good when Lumberg ask for the TPS report." It also seems to have a widespread side effect of making people hate the games on some level even as they're playing them. IMO that leads to all sorts of toxicity and nastiness and general sullenness among the player base that I don't remember being there 20 years ago. You see it most clearly in MMOs where the progression mechanics are at their most exploitative. Addicts often don't like the things they're addicted to.

They could add a space hulk sort of map type that would 'make sense' for pretty much any enemy type and give them the ability to kind of do whatever they want in the future. With Atoma I suppose they have some considerations regarding what makes sense but with a space hulk you can do pretty much whatever you want, as they can show up from any place or even any time really. So I wouldn't say there's anything that'd be totally off the table. At least I hope nothing would be.

Yeah, games are making much more money for much longer these days than they used to, largely due to more and more mechanics that "encourage" you to keep logging in often and grinding more and more. Unfortunately there are developers who look at their analytics data and believe that increased session counts is the same thing as players having more fun. Nevermind all the negative reviews, if you look at the data players are logging in 13.5% more often now than before, this must mean that they actually like the game even if they say the opposite. This is how you have game developers who truly believe that by making a game require more grinding and have systems like Darktides terrible random shop that they are making a more fun game.

I haven't seen any rubberbanding or other latency issues myself. I have heard that when people play with far away friends that you can see lag issues depending on which server gets selected, but normally it should match you to a nearby server.

I have not experienced the technical issues most others have had, I'm going to guess fatshark was trying to push the graphical boundaries but due to time and :fatshark: they weren't able to get a handle on it, hence why after release they had to just delete raytracing from the game and why we probably haven't had the fog map since then either.

I'd really like the final tier of psyker feats to be reworked so the non-purgatus staves had better integration. Ascendant Blaze seems just too good to NOT use Purgatus staff, but man I really enjoy the Surge more.

I do feel like the past couple of days have been more unstable. I was having issues like firing a shot but not actually firing it, and occasional weird lag that I hadn't really experienced prior. Steam seemed to be really hosed as well yesterday so that might also have been it

Fortunately I only crashed once (for the first time in weeks) but I almost thought it was my graphics card or cpu dying because of the game locking up and going "BZZZZT", which had never occurred before when DT crashed.

I found purgatus perfectly serviceable without taking ascendant blaze or any other burn feat or charge feats, to make ascendant blaze work I'd probably have to take the 4% warpcharge on kill feat which is competing for the best feat in the game of 15% team ult recharge per elite kill, I also very much like the quickened brain burst 30 feat which makes it fast and cheap enough to easily and reliably pop sudden threats quickly, like ogyns, ragers, trappers, bombers, snipers and gunners that need to die or get stunlocked asap, bonus is the synergy with the recharge feat so you have ult back by the time you finished.

Though I mostly use the voidstrike on psyker because it does a similar job to purgatus but with anti-gunner range.

The end of the vox transmission says whats lurking in the sublevels right now is "not human" and "has never been human" - either this is pointing to purestrain genestealers or we might get some full on daemon enemies like plaguebearers and nurglings and stuff.

Either one is cool, may it come swiftly.

Yeah that does sound like exactly what I'd expect a teaser for genestealers to be tbh. I'm skeptical they'd be adding them so quickly that they'd be teasing them now but maybe they'll surprise me, or I guess this could be something not coming out for ages.

I would have expected them to add more levels and like, sort out the core stuff a bit more before they add anything like that. Hopefully everything they add is very adaptable, like every level they add can have both factions show up in it (and they just change the chaosy objectives like the daemon ones to a biophagus growth or whatever).

Well the reason I brought them up is that Zoats are Tyranid related(much like Genestealers they're a semi-independent creation of them, though where GSC's are meant to infiltrate a target world to prepare it for invasion, Zoats are meant to be an external distraction and mislead them to the nature of the alien threat they're dealing with) and also have a tendency to show up in weird unlikely places

And lastly I just thought it would be funny to have the dialogue from the player characters treat Zoats as being the Atoma Prime equivalent to the real world urban legends of NYC having Alligators in it's sewers

No one likes to lose just because of a random chance. The tide games are meant to be mostly about skill.

There are random elements but that's to reduce the role of rote memorisation - we encounter different combinations of enemies in different places, but the AI director isn't seeking to "win", it's seeking to test our skill. Placing the hardest enemy combatant next to a teammate needing to be rescued feels like the AI trying to win because when you're a player down you're at your weakest.
