People in this county are shouting down a ~$400m expansion of a dedicated busway out to the east end of the county as "not worth the money" at the same time we're spending $1.3b to add eight miles to an expressway in the southeast that was planned in the 1980s and serves nobody now. This poo poo is so exhausting.

Cities should not have freeways at all, let alone freeway exits.

If carbrain insists on a freeway exit, it should be one of those exits if you speed through it your car smashes into a brick wall like the I-5 in Seattle.

6 lane "boulevard" generally used by drivers who think the expressway directly above isn't moving fast enough. And of course the MUP I used to ride regularly has been torn up for minimum 3 more years as the city spends $1 billion+ rehabilitating/"reconfiguring" aforementioned expressway.

Just pissed today because drivers decided to just not let pedestrians cross and continued making right hand turns. I think it's literally the worst car-centric part of "old Toronto", but it's a whole other hellscape connecting to suburbia.

The latest NotJustBikes video doesn't say anything new, but I like how he uses the old car propaganda movie to illustrate how cars and highways are actually quite antiquated, tried-and-failed technology. Unfortunately carbrained people all believe the opposite (that trains are obsolete and cars are the modern technology), which isn't helped by the fact that most people in the us will never ride a decent train system in their lifetime.

Ah, but have you guys considered that driving a car actually has a lower carbon footprint than riding a bike?

Warning: Extremely stupid content: http://www.debunkingportland.com/bicycles_kill_people.html

quote:

Analysis: ‘The carbon footprint of riding a sandwich-fueled bicycle could be 30 percent higher than driving’. '

You still can alter your behavior to reduce your carbon footprint. In particular, make sure you don’t ride a bike when you could drive a car. How’s that? Well, the people at Phyics.org thought the sandwich-climate topic was important enough to get access to the full text of the original article. They pass on this particularly interesting tidbit: A bacon, sausage, and egg sandwich (the whole Hampton Inn breakfast buffet in one tidy package) has a carbon footprint “equivalent to CO2 emissions from driving a car for 12 miles.”

Driving a car uses energy that comes from gasoline. Riding a bike uses energy that comes from the bicyclist’s food. Both sources of energy have carbon footprints. We are told CO2 emissions from the life-cycle process of producing a sandwich is equal to that of driving a car 12 miles. The question, then, is how far will the calories in that sandwich take you on a bike? ...

The bicyclist would need to eat 1.3 sandwiches to go 12 miles. That is, the CO2 footprint of riding a sandwich-fueled bike would be 30 percent higher than driving a car.

I'm so sorry.
