I haven’t ordered anything in a while but I needed to get a digital photo frame for a gift, I really want to make one out of an old 22” monitor I have but that’s a longer term project and I need this sooner. I looked locally and then on Ali and the offerings look like exactly the same product except there’s 100% markup if I buy local, so I just bought this one and am hoping it ships quickly. And then just because I was buying one thing, I decided to buy some of the other junk that’s sat in my cart for a while. Very cheap hat because I’m a bald gently caress in a sunburnt country who owns lots of hats.  These remote control cars have good reviews  And then there’s all the add-ons for them, which is where I went a bit overboard: replacement fasteners, drift tyres, five spoke, metal drive shaft, metal steering arms, shocks, swing arms, etc. and a new diff.

One of the most fascinating things to me about Ali is how all the fake reviews all focus on shipping time, even explicitly saying they haven't even tried the product. Is that what they take from skimming Amazon reviews? It is a focus there as well, but its not that big of a deal.

I think the vendor give you some freebie for making a photo review so they review it ASAP? Amazon review is more complicated like the review doesn't go up right away, Amazon will use their broken AI to take a look at your review first. Also there are a lot of brought reviews on Amazon too. To the point that I don't trust the average score any more. I just read the last few reviews and see what they say.

Years ago, I ordered a wireless doorbell from Amazon for $20 or so and the seller offered me the entire cost of it for a review and of course I did it. I gave it a 3/5, being honest about it but also thinking they wouldn't give me the credit for it but they did. That's my bought review story.

I appreciate that Best Buy incentivizes doing reviews with their whole points to gift certificate thing. I usually do reviews for NewEgg purchases even though I don't get any rewards for doing so. I'm way more hit or miss with other ones - I have a request from Target to review my last purchase from them still sitting in my inbox that I haven't gotten to yet. Nobody has bribed me to do a review anywhere, though - the Best Buy rewards thing is the closest I've experienced.

I uploaded pictures, screenshots of emails, screenshots of the tracking information, and links to the tracking data on the USPS website as evidence in the dispute section. Then I did the whole song and dance of submitting the dispute just to have the seller counter it with an offer of $0.00 and the message "Please be patient" several times. This happened every day for a week or two and eventually AliExpress judged in favor of the seller despite the USPS site itself saying that the item was confiscated for counterfeit postage and that the tracking information was reused. A lot of effort spent for $4.25 earbuds but that isn't that much to pay to learn to not trust AliExpress again. Ended up ordering some from Temu and got them within a couple weeks instead of 2 months for the same price. They denied me on something a while back...but recently was shocked that they refunded me on 3 items that actually arrived quickly, but were just straight garbage. 2 apple watch bands that were literally too small to fit around my sleek dainty wrists, and a 14 pro max case that appeared to literally be made out of cardboard. advertised as leather and tweed. i sent a single pic of each item and marked them as not as described or whatever, within 48 hours was refunded. i couldn't believe it. it took me months to get a refund on a cool piece of luggage that never arrived.

The only issue I've had with AliExpress disputes was on a USB wifi dongle I ordered. It had a slightly different chipset than advertised. RTL8812BU instead of RTL8812AU. Now this would make no difference at all to almost anyone. But for my purposes it was the difference between useful and not useful at all. AliExpress gave me half back. As a result I ended up using it on my gaming PC as a regular wifi adaptor. It's pretty good honestly.

If they had a little bit bigger sizes I’d test the theory. As is I might have to go for some others that are everywhere on AE (and similar). I think they look pretty good, have to see I guess.

I think it's the expected norm for footwear these days, that the sole stitches are decorative. I think they've done glued-only soles for decades now. Unless you're buying custom hand made luxury footwear, at least. I could be wrong but that's been my impression. Edit: Also lol at thinking you're looking at pictures of the actual boot you'll receive. :-D The color variants also feature different variants of hooks, and not just different color hooks either, so I think it's the usual Ali lottery as to what it will actually look like.
