Caught up to the latest one.

Really good episode until it got to the climax, which may compete with GOT season 5 in how dumb it was. The pre-fight monologue was cringey, the action was dumb chaos where it felt like the only reason our characters survived the encounter was due to plot armor, and what the gently caress was with the villain’s hesitation at the end? You want to shoot them, shoot them!

And then Ellie’s “healing blood” scene happened and I cried. And Harry’s distraught at the end, like he realized everything that he did and all the harm that came from it was in vain, and now he exists in a world he cannot live in, was heartbreaking. All in all a good episode. Did they get a guest studio to work on that fight though? Why was it so dumb? What the gently caress?

I don't know the actual answer but surely the child Clicker could've been infected a year ago when she was a slightly younger child.

Pondsmith was a consultant for 2077 but didn't write it, so his take on cyberpsychosis (which, IMO, is kind of corrosive) isn't actually necessarily relevant to the video game's take.

how can you possibly know that something from the game that didn't happen in an episode won't happen in a later episode? just don't compare to the game until the show is done.

frankly i had to stop reading this thread entirely because i was sick of spoilers being inserted by seemingly well-intentioned people who don't know what they don't know.

That's my concern, and it already happened in this thread. So far it was only for minor things like the gay porn joke, so no big deal there, but there's an easy way to prevent it from happening for something bigger. We only have four episodes left before they cover the whole first game, then we all go can go wild on it.

That said, this is just my personal preference, so if you think I'm being a giant weenie feel free to just ignore me and post comparisons under a spoiler like someone suggested.

I'm not an expert, but I think there are a few stages of evolution and that infected only evolve into Clickers after a couple years?
- Runners who are the freshly infected (most of them die after a few years?)
- Clickers are stronger people who have been infected quite a while and their heads slowly split open (maybe a few years?)
- Bloaters who are crazy strong people who refuse to stop fighting and die (maybe decades?)

I'm also not sure about how they 'forced them all underground' like we're talking thousands right? But I'm not gonna think too hard about it, it was a cool idea.

the only thing i could imagine working is if they had a squad lure the infected underground, then sealed off the entrances. cos you can't exactly force these things back, they'll just run wildly into bullets en masse, there's no self-preservation instinct going on.

From what we've seen, the fungus can't infect & control corpses, right? That indicates to me that there is some kind of relationship going on where it's taking nutrients from the active biological processes of the living host. So if the body's processes are still ongoing then you'd imagine they would keep aging.

But then again, you could also just as easily say that since the fungus is taking the nutrients, it stunts the hosts growth, and you get a bunch of malnourished zombie kids running around who will never grow above five feet tall. I thought the clicker kid was cool, she reminded me of an evil version of maddie ziegler from that video with her and shia labeouf.

Woody funguses are pretty common. They're not as hard as like, oak, but much harder than human flesh. I don't know enough about guns... if you shoot into a tree with a rifle, how far does the bullet go? How thick would your "mushroom armor" need to be to keep the bullet from reaching your body?

Yea, they do. You shoot a bunch in the video game with armor piercing rounds and can even melee them to death. Its funny they just made it like an unstoppable terminator fungus in the show.

edit: like seriously most people dont understand just how much damage rifle rounds do to bodies due to movies/games/tv not depicting things accurately

Depends on the tree, depends on the rifle. Some trees have more dense wood that is resistant towards shattering, some are soft and brittle. Likewise, some rifle rounds are slower and have less penetration, others are zippier and can easily go through even the heaviest of body armor. Given that we have no idea of how the actual physiology of Bloaters actually works (Like, how much human anatomy is even actually left under there? How slowly would it bleed out?), I would say it's not implausible that they could be resistant to smaller-caliber rifle rounds, or at least any more implausible than the existance of a giant fungus monster itself.

Being extremely stringent about spoilers is a uniquely TVIV culture most people just passively absorb spoilers as they come to them in real life. It's hard to put yourself in a pure and untainted mindset. It's like trying to find a jury that hasn't heard of Jeffrey Epstein, and when you do they are perfectly smooth dullards.

And spoilers don't really hurt most people's enjoyment. A few preconceptions helps build up anticipation.

roomtone

it's not unique to TVIV, you see it everywhere there is a non-spoiler thread. about 30% of it will be discussion about how somebody posted a spoiler, or if they can, or if they were being sly about it, blah blah.

there's no resolution. every person will have their own threshold of what is acceptable spoilering, the easiest way to do it is to make a spoiler and non-spoiler thread and that is what happens. some people aren't satisfied with this. some people won't stick to the rules.

It's tricky to know when some things from the game are definitely in the past. People in this thread brought up a scene in the game where Ellie finds a gay porno mag after episode 3 because it apparently involved Bill who wasn't traveling with them in the show. And yet the show had a gay porno mag scene of its own in episode 4. Presumably a different-ish one, but it was still spoiled for me by people who had assumed the show had diverged and that it was 'safe' to talk about.

That's a very minor example, but it's still evidence that relying on peoples judgement for what's 'safe' is going to get people talking about all sorts of things.

I'm curious about some game differences, but I respect the simplicity of an absolute rule to make things clear.

I personally would be happy if this thread just did not mention stuff from the game at all until the season was done, and then went ahead and talked about the differences when this part of the story was definitely done.

Yeah, this is the solution. Goons aren't reliable on this issue, it's been shown time and time again that you give them an inch they'll take a mile.

Happened in The Expanse threads, happened in the various Thrones ones...

IMO no game chat, full stop. It's the only way the idea of this thread can work.

Judging by other spoiler/nonspoiler dual threads from the past i.e. game of thrones. Surely all the game folk can talk about comparisons in there and when season is over peeps can read through that thread retroactively.
