I rewatched Annihilation last night after watching Crimes of the Future and man what a great way to feel really loving nihilistic. Solid double feature pairing.

The 4K of EoT is great, got some fantastic bass, even during the intro news clips. Enjoyed the film itself as well.

Mister Miracle, Omega Men, Vision and Sheriff of Babylon are still top tier for me. His mini series stuff is a lot more solid than his ongoing stuff which he doesn't do very often.

I can just imagine the documentary about the CIA psyop poo poo that went on through comic book history.

Remember the very so so movie Argo (of Argo gently caress yourself fame), well in the real life true story version of Argo Jack Kirby did fake movie posters for a fake movie (Argo) to help sell the idea that there really was a movie being made in Iran.

I thought what they did was use Kirby's drawings that he made for what was actually an attempt at doing a film of Lord of Light that didn't get past the "pitch to moneymen" stage.

Looking at this Wired Article and you are right

Article posted:

While the Lord of Light film adaptation ended up as nothing more than a cover story, it began as a sincere attempt by producer Barry Geller to adapt Zelazny's book to the big screen. Geller hired Kirby to create the concept art and also brought on a makeup artist named John Chambers. (The saga of the Lord of Light production is actually the subject of its own documentary called Science Fiction Land.) The project eventually fell apart, but when Mendez called on Chambers to help him exfiltrate six American diplomats hiding out in Tehran, the makeup artist still had copies of the script and concept designs.

I’m actually midway through rereading Morrison’s Batman run and it really is an absolute banger, he’s definitely done my favourite takes on Batman and Superman, at his best barely any comics writer in history can top him

I read a lot of unbelievably mediocre Batman stuff when my parents owned a comic shop and I would definitely put the King I read above 90% of it of it. I’ve never read the Scott Snyder stuff so looking forward to starting that after Morrison’s.

Wait what thread is this? I watched Hidden Fortress today. Hell of a lot of fun. Tomorrow I’m finishing off the Apu trilogy and then Saturday got a big screen showing of Yojimbo. The moving pictures…..they are pretty cool

She dies at the end anyways, but in a bed and not in icy waters. That fits with her floating on the door and keeping Jack in the water.

Does Vinegar Syndrome know about this? Vinegar Syndrome surely must be on this already, right? Should I email them?

They don’t give the bear cocaine on purpose. Or do they in the movie? irl it was dropped from a plane. also irl the bear just died and didn’t go on a coke-fuelled murder spree

Has anyone seen Pacifiction (getting US release this weekend after being out forever overseas)? Trying to decided whether to see it, seems like europeans really liked it (Cahiers du Cinema named it #1 film of 2022) but american critics reviewing it for the US release have been pretty bad.

I saw that in 20 the entire editorial staff of Cahiers resigned so I'm not sure if their opinion is worth a drat anymore. They've also always been a bit loopy tbh, even when it was good.

Just finished The Whale. It’s not what I would call a happy film. Very good though.

Halfway through I said to my wife that it could be a play, then saw in the end credits that it was based on one.
