The New Jersey Devils today acquired forwards Timo Meier, Timur Ibragimov, defensemen Scott Harrington, Santeri Hatakka, goaltender Zachary Emond and a fifth-round pick (originally Colorado's selection) in the 2024 NHL Draft I'm assuming this are mostly just for contracts???

It's a good deal for both teams imo. Grier got a solid young NHL player, a really nice D prospect, an okay D prospect with NHL games, and potentially 2 first round picks. That's a good haul for a player who is technically still a rental for NJ. For the Devils, they didn't give up any major prospects (they kept Holtz who I thought was as good as gone), the second 1sr is contingent on them making the ECF (if they do, they don't really need the first that badly). Fitzgerald must feel like he has a good chance to extend Meier, he certainly has the cap space, they're a fun team to play on right now, and either way NJ got a 26 year-old star player to add to one of the leagues best offenses.

If things go according to plan Jack Johnson isn't going to see the ice in the postseason. Otherwise I would much rather have him out there than Andreas Englund or Brad Hunt. I am getting kind of nervous about the trades the Avs are making though. Surely they don't think everything will be fixed by Landeskog returning to the lineup?
