Yes/no questions are very bad in surveys and I would be very, very surprised if 17 percent of the country actually believed that Satanic pedophiles control the government in a way that modifies their behavior in anyway. More like "Hell, I'd believe anything outta those clowns in congress"

In media narrative terms, it's because "opioid crisis" neatly marries the rash of drug overdoses especially among working-class whites in America and immigration debate as almost the entire focus of opioid mitigation has switched from pharmaceutical reforms to fentanyl.

Tbh, it's always the UNDER GOD poo poo that bothers me the most. Theocratic dictatorships being what they are and all that along with the reality that no nation ever in history ever did what they did thinking that GOD wasn't on their side, that they were doing the right thing by ignoring the central tenets of whatever sacred tome they were using to justify ignoring all the parts of it that should have led them to know better, and using those same things to excuse all of it in the horrible aftermath. I'm not sure what's harder to parse, the layers of Q poo poo or any number of the Sacred Books but the combination of mental gymnastics to get any of it to work combined with the inherent levels of blind faith necessary to buy any of it are things that increasingly concern me as I age. I hate to be edgy atheist guy and I hope I'm not coming off that way. Nobody ever went to war, executed prisoners, tortured people or committed genocide without believing that some deity or divine force supported it, or at least convincing themselves that they/it did. I take some measure of solace learning that more and more people define themselves as agnostic or whatever but, the problem is, the True Believers just use this as proof as the reason everything is so hosed up and they get hostile when they double down.
