The Star Trek shirt is listed under the "US size shirt" area so I decided to take a chance and order true to my US size. If it's too small I will ....try to lost 15 pounds.

Today I picked up a mini gyro for my rc truck, basically provides counter steer automatically for drifting. I also grabbed a couple of spare diffs in case I gently caress up creating my own locked diffs, and it’s plastic parts so good to have spares. RC car parts to grease to lubricant to lubricant. Available in Regular, Ice, and Hot semen. Body pillows are so weird - and these are the ones that aren’t anime, sexualised, or include boobs. I’m tempted to buy a giant dead goose pillow or a huge Psyduck but also they’re loving weird. All the sleeping pictures of women kind of feel like a fetish.

The little WLToys 284131 truck I got from Ali… I’m either having a second childhood with it or finally getting to do all the fun car stuff I want to do in real life but is prohibitively expensive (on a much smaller scale). I got the idea for it from this drift mod guide. I’ve changed the wheels to hard plastic drift 5 spokes already since that’s just screw on/off. I’m hoping to rip out the drive train tomorrow to clean it up and do the gyro at the same time. Not sure if I’m going to touch the steering yet, might see how it runs first.

Has anyone bought any digital calipers off Ali that they liked/hated/were neutral on? Looks like the models I can buy locally for 25-30$ are basically the same as the 3-5$ models on ali.

Yes, accurate. I guess the technology is good enough that I've never been able to tell the difference. The cheap ones are a little easier to accidentally turn on in the case and kill the batteries. Also I have some $3 ones instead of $5 that are plastic, and only have one digit after the decimal point. I like that one because it feels so lovely, no one steals it off my desk, and the last digit on calipers is usually useless anyway.

I have some cheap ones that I bought from Lidl for about £10. They seem to work reasonably and produce repeatable measurements, but they're crunchy as gently caress, even after I had them apart and cleaned all the crap out. I imagine any Ali experience will be similar.

Yeah I rarely use mine in digital mode because of this, also zeroing them was fiddly and they would seem to need it every time you turned them on or put them down or looked away from them

Gadgets that run down the batteries when not in use are incredibly annoying, I have a digital tire inflator for my air compressor and it needed a new expensive CR2450 battery every time I used it twice a year while changing tires, and it was fiddly to get the battery in and out. eventually I got fed up enough with it to bodge in a physical battery disconnect switch and now the battery lasts forever, I have no idea why it didn't come with that from the factory. Just make a caliper like this China: https://www.instructables.com/Digital-Caliper-ONOFF-Slide-Switch-Hack/

Switches cost money you see. Also it pays to preorder a small quantity of batteries in advance before you need them instead of having to rush to a specialty store and pay several times the cost. I stockpile every size of cell I ever use and it's only a few bucks every 3 -4 years.

My last set of digital calipers I had through work I modded to have a serial out port. It would spit out whatever I was measuring into a file on my laptop. Don't have the need for that anymore but I might give it a go with my current ones at some stage. https://www.instructables.com/Hacked-Digital-Vernier-Caliper-Using-Arduino/

Calipers are among my most used tools. Granted, i do a lot of repair work and electronics diy'ing, but a house without one definitely is lacking something. I have a cheap one for scribing lines in metal things i gotta drill, and a good Mitutoyo one for accurately measuring stuff. No real need for digital here. Guess it's easier if you use the devil's system of measuring with its fractions and all, i never understood how the nonius scale works with fractions of inches. The analog scale for decimal measurements is plenty easy to read. Re: coin cells It's safe to stock up on lithium coin cells, but alkaline coin cells have significant risk of leakage and self discharge. Don't stock up on more than 2 years worth of alkaline coin/button cells.

But that was at a drug factory. Had a pair hanging around at the SMD factory too, and the resolution was necessary for SMD parts and teaching robots to stop being stupid as gently caress. Might buy some cheap calipers with all my Dan Flashes shirts and do the off-switch mod.

My "cheap" ones mentioned earlier are not anywhere near as cheap as the ones in the big Clive video Original AX listing is gone but they look the same as these ones Mostly I use them in manual mode just because I can't be hosed digging up a battery and undoing screws. Seriously why isn't there a physical switch???

One of the common mods I have seen for cheap calipers is to glue a 2 x aaa battery holder onto the backside and wire it into the coin cell socket sometimes adding a switch, now that I think about it the batteries from one of those new rechargeable wireless earbuds would be an ideal candidate for a coin cell replacement.

The thing about rechargeables though is you have to use a specialty protective circuit to charge them though, that makes the thing a bit more complicated than just using an AAA housing. Not an insurmountable issue, but more work.
