Daddario EXL157 strings and tuned B to B. I only had a chance to plug it into some headphones, but the Tele pickup was probably a good call for a decent clean classic baritone sound. It can do that doom/sludge stuff seemingly well too from my 5-second per patch spin on the old 11rack. If I transpose it, it absolutely nails the Beatles Daytripper kinda twangy note deal. I’m bad at guitar but decent at stupid projects, so take my tone evaluation for what you will so far.

Is there a thread recommendation for a good site to buy guitar parts? I have a Strat that I pieced together from some POS off brand body and dropped in some decent pickups and a Warmoth neck and it never felt quite right because I did this when I was 15 and had no real idea what I was doing. I’d like to buy a different bridge and some new tuners - I checked Musician’s Friend and they don’t have a wide variety (I remember them having anything and everything like a decade ago). Seems to either be extremely good or very bad with the appropriate prices and I’d really just like to hit the acceptable midrange. Not too keen on Amazon for this, unless someone can recommend a good storefront.

Not particularly concerned with things being name brand, honestly. The pick guard and some other small pieces I’ve grabbed from Ali but I wasn’t sure if a bridge would be a great buy or not.

Oh it looks like Sweetwater has Strat bridges for like 20 bucks for a fender one. Someone ITT mentioned they’d bought some locking tuners on Guitar Fetish that were nice.

Sweetwater has some pretty nice deals - think I’ll probably just grab that Fender bridge you mentioned, wouldn’t be saving that much on Ali and the improved shipping time is worth it. Thanks! I’ll have to make a post once I’ve got this thing set up like how I always imagined it to be

the shop I take my lessons at got in a bunch of gibsons including a walnut sg tribute that ruled and I'll probably get one also a 6000 dollers lp black beauty that weighed 500 lbs that I also want even with its 50's thicc neck

I am way late to this but I think the reason Danelectros are “expensive” for being built outta Masonite is cause all their stuff is built in either Korea or New Jersey. They are well worth the $425-ish I got my seafoam green 59 Nos+ for, IMO

AllParts has a wide selection of guitar parts. Stratosphere Parts has a pretty good selection (especially for Strat, as far as I recall). Philadelphia Luthier Tools sources stuff from a variety of places (also an AllParts reseller). Warmoth sells hardware like bridges and tuners as well. For electronic parts specifically, Amplified Parts has a good selection. StewMac has a good selection but is never the cheapest. I've also just bought stuff through sellers on Reverb. I got Graphtech tuners from a seller on there most recently.

I ordered some replacement tuners to fix one that broke on a tele, and they were significantly cheaper direct from Fender than from any other store, for the exact same model number. Got a DiMarzio Humbucker from Hell in the mail yesterday, as soon as the kids went to bed I grabbed the soldering iron and popped it in the neck of my partscaster. I love it, clearer and brighter than the GFS "Mean 90" I originally put in there, takes to distortion well and seems to pair nicely with my Chopper T in the middle position. I'm now 2 for 2 on trying out DiMarzio pickups and being very happy with them, so I guess I'm a DiMarzio fanboy now despite their naming schemes being stuck in the 90s. My PUs just got here, they’re older Epiphone humbuckers, it looks like each one has a hot lead and a ground, can I just solder the ground to back of the volume pot? It’s the same exact length as the lead, so I assume that’s what you’re supposed to do?

You can solder it to anything that's connected to ground, assuming the back of your pots are connected to ground, thus back of the pot will work just fine.

What you want to know is what is the pickup with the highest resonant peak frequency. So you pull up this not very scientific chart of various pickup measurements and... http://www.echoesofmars.com/pickup_...electedRow~307) Looks like Filtertrons are the jangle chime masters at a whopping 15.3kHz unloaded. Humbucker from Hell comes in at a very respectable 11.5kHz. For comparison, Fender Fat 50s come in at about 9.6kHz unloaded. When you load them up with a 10 foot Fender cable it's 6.1kHz, 4.6kHz and 5kHz (loading can do weird things!). I've found lots of errors in that website's data so take it with a grain of salt.

Arguably the biggest guitar dork band out there right now had a new record come out today. It's really excellent. So many fun little parts to geek out on. It gets crushingly heavy too, but they leave room for lots of hooks. This kind of music is not easy to do well but Periphery succeeds more than they fail. What kind of bridge is thought to be best for reducing part of the friction that causes it to go out of tune when you get on the tremolo bar? Is brass better than bone? Graphite?

As long as the bridge is in good shape, it's generally not necessarily friction that causes tuning issues, so I only typically recommend replacing saddles if there's a string breakage issue. Most of your tuning issues are coming from the nut anyway. If your trem goes out of tune, listen for creaking- it's probably your strings binding in the nut. Anyway back to bridges- most guitars that have bridges that move are dependent on having the system set up correctly so it reliably returns to zero. It needs to be adjusted perfectly, and there can not be anything that causes any creaking or clunking in the movement. It needs to be smooth so it reliably returns to zero. This usually just means making sure everything down there is set up correctly and your pivot points are working as intended. In the case of knife edge type bridges like floyds, it means your bridge posts need to be in good shape and your knife edges need to be relatively sharp and shaped as intended. With screw-pivot bridges like a strat you just have to make sure the pivot screws are set correctly so nothing is binding.

Graphite/graphtech are great, Bone is fine too if well made and properly lubricated. My #1 guitar has a graphtech that I gave a pretty good working over to when I bought it . I can do full dive bombs on it, no locking nut or bridge. Locking tuners, but honestly those have almost no effect on tuning stability.  Edit: It's a 2018 Ibanez AZ242. One more boring grounding question. I noticed that for a Les Paul you have to run jumper wires to all the pots to ground everything, because my pickgaurd has shielding on it though I only need the ground that runs to the trem claw right ?
