Which means, duh, hiring more consultants to do more equity outreach. This will be repeated until the only people left are the carbrain psychos who want to use that sidewalk space for another travel lane.

A little surprised no one's talked about this yet. Silicon Valley Bank defaulted big time today and the FDIC stepped in and took it over before the work day even finished. Apparently like >90% of its deposits are uninsured and the total outstanding balance due for this bank alone is bigger than all of the 2008 bank payouts combined. https://www.axios.com/2023/03/10/silicon-valley-bank-run-svb-stock https://www.fdic.gov/news/press-releases/2023/pr23016.html

Also this whole thing kicked off because two days ago SVB came out and said "hey any chance some investors are willing to buy a bunch of bonds to help us quickly raise $2.2B? What no nothing's wrong, we're fine, everything's fine, how are you?" which caused an immediate investor panic to the point they had to hit the breaker on trading SVB stock and the FDIC stepped in to take it over in the middle of a business day.

Oceanview Cremations, whose license was suspended in 2018, was found to still be operating. Seems they were supposedly cremating and then scattering in the ocean, but were really just filling a warehouse with them. https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/six-bodies-found-bay-area-mortuary-warehouse-17837013.php "Five of the six bodies were successfully identified, but one set of remains from Sonoma County is still unknown after Oceanview Cremations owner Robert Smith was unable to provide information, authorities say. Of the 154 cremated remains, only four have been identified by family members, the Alameda County Sheriff's Office told CBS. In one instance, a family member who contacted the sheriff's office thought he already possessed his father's remains, only to allegedly discover they were found in the warehouse." "Oceanview Cremations, located at 25180 Mission Boulevard in Hayward, has a history of alleged misdeeds." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAwNHRsPFFE

Pretty questionable to assume that anyone affected is a gentrifying tech bro, rather than, say, an employee of a company that uses a payroll provider with an account at the wrong bank

Doesn't look like any depositers will lose cash due to the Fed intervening and going to sell all stocks/investments of value to pay them, while investors and the bank itself are hosed.

Yeah most people seem to think the $250K FDIC insurance means that's all you'll get back in the event that a bank fails no matter what, which isn't the case. I actually had to just explain this to my roommate today when he went on an angry tirade about how SVB folks are getting bailed out (they're not). You will always get back up to $250K, guaranteed, if your deposits are FDIC insured. For any deposits above that, the FDIC will try to make you as whole as possible either by finding a buyer for the bank who will take on the deposit or by liquidating the bank's assets and treating you as a creditor. What all the VC dickheads were mad about over the weekend is that they wanted the government to also reimburse investors for held stocks, because when these dickheads say "capitalism" and "risk" they actually mean they want to gamble in a casino that lets them pocket winnings and subsidizes losses with house money. All these parasites were rightly told to gently caress right off.

# ? Mar 15, 2023 06:48 |

Yeah FDIC doesn't technically guaranty the deposits over $250k, but they have basically 100% record of recovering deposits for everyone. Eventually. You may have to wait months/years for the big ones. Ranter posted:The ruling class sits back and laughs while the proletariat fights amongst itself, licking it's lips at today's crab dinner The ruling class was the ones whining. It was kayfabe. And if they really cared about missed payroll they could have just given bridge financing for any startup in danger of missing it.
