The WARN Act requires companies to notify state governments and affected individuals of plans to lay off 500 or more employees (and 50 or more employees when an employment site is shut down or when the number of layoffs make up at least one-third of the company’s workforce) at least 60 days in advance.

the collective laziness of the consultant class.

I know of three people personally that quit and got new remote jobs when their orgs tried to bring them back. It's a big enough wedge that any company looking to being people back will lose a decent percentage of their talent to someone that isn;t doing that. The only way it changes now if all the companies decide at the same time that remote work is over, but it only takes a few to keep it going.

Right. At some point the companies will decide that and you'll have no protection. 3 people getting new jobs doesn't mean anything. The entire workforce has 0 legal protections - if the employers want remote work to end they will. Either by company policy or by getting the govt to intervene. Good luck tho WFH seems nice.

For sure. the lack of unions in the tech sector is baffling to me. I don't see how they can bring everyone back in the short term because consulting is not hard to do remotely, and offices are expensive.

They should be replacing their white collar remote workers with 3rd world outsourcing. They get to blame workers for being too greedy and call them racist at the same time.

It allows managers to oversee what their employees are doing at a glance and also increases the prestige of managers that have offices.
