As I'm sure everyone knows, I'm no fan of LTT - but I'm also not shocked that a rich white suburbanite Canadian doesn't have the context to understand the meaning of an elided slur.

I’ve definitely seen hard r used that way as well. Im not sure how much I’ve seen “hard r” used without context of, shall we say, a previous use of letter-word before hand.

Maybe I just haven’t noticed.

Dr. Video Games 0031 posted:

awfully generous to say that 799 is the price it should have been. it's the price where it starts to make sense over the 4070 ti, another very overpriced card.

if they super undercut NVIDIA, NVIDIA just drops prices. And ultimately it's all one market and they can't cut their way out of Ampere inventory either, NVIDIA will sigh and cut that too if they really had to. It's telling that Navi 33 is only delayed for desktop, they're worried about Ampere inventory too.

AMD needed to do a launch to legally satisfy investors (they promised it in Q4, and they delayed as long in Q4 as they could) but they're focused on taking server marketshare right now because that becomes cemented for a long time due to server procurement practices. RDNA3 is kind of a dud, nobody really knows why, and the drivers are still a mess despite a seemingly delayed launch. RDNA2 has to sell into OEM channels saturated with a bunch of ampere already and that leaves... dumping it in the DIY market cheaply. Nor can they just cut RDNA3 prices a ton and have NVIDIA get serious about Ampere pricing and push RDNA2 down either.

But with RDNA3 seemingly being a dud they don't really have leverage to pull anything either, and Epyc is hot. It's just not a priority beyond sponging up excess wafers until Ampere gets gone.

AMD honestly does a good job of letting their prices float downwards though, and RDNA2 cards are bundled with TLOU as well, so I could get a 6600 (or sometimes XT) for a hackintosh around $220-250 and it comes with a bundled game that a lot of people actually want to play. It's not cash but it's not bad either for a "use your buying power for something most people will need anyway" pack-in... like the DDR5 bundle too. As far as bundles go those are both A+ pack-ins.

Hopefully the appearance of the GA104 3060 (58% enabled!) signals the end of the line soon. Navi 33 launching in Q2 this year (probably june) point similarly. The end should be nigh soon.

I think his, and other's, confusion is because even the, erm, "soft a" version of the word is used less in recent times. Thankfully.
In the 90s and early 00s it was far far more common. People thinking it was un-racist, and maybe a bit hip n cool. Christ.
R***** was seen as more acceptable until relatively recently. JFC

Remembering what it was like here in the early years, or reading through archived stuff shows that "we" were fully invested in hard R posting.
Pretty grim reading back sometimes, but really good to see how it has improved.

None of that makes the clip less funny tho. Lmao.

Same, but more because of the context of it being used in Family Guy and those kinds of shows. Those shows are edgy, but still I don't see then going THAT far.

In fairness I was thrown for a loop watching the clips initially because of the SA threads I frequent where "hard R" is used in the same (incorrect) context Linus used.

I wonder if it's one of those regional linguistic things. I've seen people eat probes on these forums where the rap sheet entry is something like "posting oval office in a non-antipodean thread" which is just as hard R.

A Youtube tech guy I haven't yet seen mentioned: Retrospector78

It's a similar channel to LGR, looking at retro tech but with a bit more of a hardware angle than software. He covers computers I'm not sure LGR and other tech channels have done before.

Juniper uses FreeBSD as a control plane OS, the actual traffic is handled by ASICs on the data plane.
They probably have shedloads of DDR1 memory still in stock, so why not use it?

The slowest DDR1 has a max bandwidth of 1.6GB/s, what’s the stateful throughput promised by that firewall?

A couple of months ago, I decided to build a new PC to replace my now 6 year old rig. To get myself back in the PC building zone, I also started watching LTT videos again for the first time in a good long while (not because of any issues with Linus or anything, but rather because my level of interest in a given hobby can wax and wane, and so before deciding to upgrade my rig it was more about watching things like miniature painting or 3D printing vids, which have currently taken a backseat to watching PC-related stuff).

Anyhow, all of this is a rather roundabout way of saying that, after catching up with many an LTT vid, I agree with others ITT that Anthony is one of the best presenters on the LTT staff. :)

On the lower end SRX models, the ASICs are only used for L2 forwarding, even in the current generation. The SRX4600s are where the ASIC-based traffic inspection shows up. We're not talking about MX10ks here.

Sure, okay - but even DDR tops out at 3.2Gbps.

Also, I wasn't talking about IDS.
Simply doing L2 and L3 in an ASIC has been cheap ever since the Cavium Octeon CN5020 arrived on the market, and that's the chip is used in SRX 110/210, if memory serves.
