Better mapping tools is also a big part of it. The version of hammer used for csgo mapping until now is barely different from the original release of source hammer in 2004 which itself was barely different from hammer/worldcraft for hl1. The HL:A version of hammer is a lot more capable and I assume CS2 will use basically the same thing.

The goldsource hammer was fine when mapping was basically drawing rectangles and putting textures on them but god has modern mapping looked painful on the source version. There's a reason literally everything in the new maps is just a custom model.

How likely is the tick change something like the fighting games genre's rollback netcode? Where it's an algo extrapolation of player trends and tendencies that corrects itself if it guessed wrong?

not sure how i feel about this e: man sometimes discord videos embed and sometimes they don't. this is showing off the new 'crosshair follows actual recoil' feature https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/892029340987060265/1088433204123406426/v09300g40001cgdo2sbc77u0pbd4k7vg.mov on the one hand cs's weird recoil is definitely a huge and frustrating barrier for new players so adding this would definitely help newbies on the other hand we all had to suffer through it through sheer determination so the other scrubs should have to suffer too
