drat this bird!! When I was in Maine 10 years ago I missed it. But I didn't have as good of abilities then and I was with a group. I bet nowadays I could have easily got it. Boreal Chickadee. One was seen in MD in the seventies.

He might have brought some of his friends over if y'all bird nerds hadn't freaked the gently caress out about him.

It is a normal rear end chickadee in its normal rear end range.

Yes there are. And just wait a month or so. Use ebird and find some migration hotspots near you and go out and see those neat migrant and resident warblers!! And other songbirds

I saw either a falcon or a kestrel the other day.

Didn't get a good enough look at it cuz it was really motoring but it was a lot smaller than a hawk and definitely a bird of prey.

Robins and pigeons keep lurking by my house. I can tell they wanna make a nest but the weather's still too inconsistent for them to do it; 67 degrees yesterday and it's going to be 31 Wednesday

If your area is like mine its either an American Kestrel or a Merlin. Merlins are generally more direct flyers so yours kind of sounds like that to me based just on what you said.

Also a male sharp-shinned hawk can run pretty small and be mistaken for a falcon

My dad and I discussed it and figured it was probably a kestrel. There are plenty of sharp-shined hawks in my area but I've seen a million of them and I would recognize it. I didn't get a great look at it but it didn't look like a Merlin and I've actually never seen one of those in the area before.

I looked up Ohio(don't know if that's your area in general) and Merlin ranges and they are mostly migratory through that area rather than here where they are normal around the winter. However, this time of year is a prime time to see one there! They are being seen in the area. Also some do winter it looks like even if it's not regular :)
