Nah, Jury Nullification is still good (since it provides a means to disregard the blatantly racist legal system), it's just a two sided coin since it doesn't stop racist juries from doing the same. The problem is the system itself, not the release valve.

it's not a release valve if the racist judge can shut it off at any time

in theory it's the way we have told ourselves we would handle a jury trial for marijuana if we ever landed on a jury

in reality the second the judge catches a whiff of that poo poo they throw you off and replace you immediately, and maybe hold you in contempt of court. The judge has to be cool with it for it to happen. It's mainly used to keep good ol' boys from having the laws that were meant for other people from being applied to them. It's cool when it works out for people on the left, but it's their release valve, not ours

Yeah, if you're dumb enough to be blabbing about Jury Nullification openly, it'll get chucked/mistrialed and relitigated. That's why you don't actually say that's the gameplan to anyone, OP.

Recently posters have been making some good points about how liberals think, specifically their ideas of justice/"fairness" and progress. Rather than point out all the ways this ruling is bullshit, other people have done a great job of that ITT, I wish I could explain to your typical normie liberal that any medieval court would have ruled in your favour, and more than that, as long as you paid your rent, you owned the land. It seems like a small thing because we talk about "our" apartments and stuff, but it's a pretty significant distinction.

It may come across as silly to say that medieval peasants had more rights than us, but in disputes with landlords, particularly ones who acted like loons in front of the court, they did. I don't know, I keep thinking about things like that.

medieval obligations cut both ways. gotta remember they were bad enough that folks rushed in a burned those feudal records the second they could.

origin/social obligations are always two sided. they work great for some folks and are intolerable for others.

Your landlord can't levy you to fight in a private war against his brother-in-law, which I admit would be annoying.

No but an association of landlords (the us government) can.

This was as much a way to protect nobility's broader social standing as it was an ethos about "doing right to your servants" or whatever. If some nobles begin excessively abusing and exploiting their serfs, the serfs are gonna hang him from a tree, and other serfs might start getting ideas about the nobles they serve.

The past 15 years or so have shown us pretty thoroughly that American "nobility" don't have a single ounce of fear of the broader population.

Something I think about a lot was when I was studying the French Revolution, one of the points of economic data I came across was that nobility was roughly 1.5% of the population (400k people in the Second Estate out of a population of roughly 27 million) and controlled the vast majority of the wealth. Odd how that proportion keeps popping up!

That and, their serfs might defect to come work for you instead, in which case you could bring forward a case and have the king award you their land.

It was a pretty serious consideration.

I mean the heart of the matter is and has always been who actually holds power. There's no legal theory or mechanism that will prevent the powerful from using it to do whatever they want, that's the definition of being powerful in the first place. Jury nullification isn't the answer to that or the secret weapon of the status quo, it might help in some edge cases but that's all.

Lol, I wonder what leaked…

” The chemicals discovered in the water include butyl acrylate, a contaminant discovered after the Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio that spilled hundreds of thousands of pounds of toxic chemicals into the air, soil, and water. Ethel acrylate and methyl methacrylate were also discovered.”

Oh, well, yeah, that sucks.

Here's some doomsday economics for you guys. I got my mail and saw my quarterly Medicare summary. I went in at the end of last year at the recommendation of my physician to get a 1cm skin tag sliced off. This whole process took about 20 minutes start-to-finish after checking in, including waiting on the doctor to show up and waiting on them to prep for the removal.

You can see how much the hospital charges private health insurance, and how much less it costs when it's handled by government healthcare.

No surprise at all the bloodsuckers running private insurance and for-profit hospitals are fighting so hard against M4A.

Yeah but couldn't a rival landlord just roll in and start slaughtering peasants as an act of war? Wasn't that the whole dynamic of warfare at the time was to kill "enemy" peasants to ruin their economy?
