I wonder if Schwab locking bonds into Held to Maturity will limit their financial flexibility in any material ways, or is it just costs them a few basis points in missed opportunities.

Eh, I don't know if I'd go that far, especially given the history of capital ushering him into office & choosing his cabinet for him.

But he sure doesn't give a poo poo about lifting a finger for anything good, given his reticence in endorsing the chicago mayoral race, in which he could have the easiest time in the world swaying voters in favor of the union guy over the cop-lover if he chose to.

They seem to have other avenues for liquidity and attracting (and keeping) deposits that, say, SVB or First Republic do not. I think profit margins are going to get squeezed because the held to maturity securities have low percentage yields, but if they can otherwise address the liquidity needs, then I think it's more about disappointed investors than anything else.

I would like to know how Schwab compares to, say, Fidelity. Are Fidelity that much better off?

Fidelity isn't a bank tho

for instance if you keep cash at fidelity, they put it different banks up to the FDIC limit. fidelity is just a brokerage while I believe Charles schwab is a brokerage AND bank

This makes me wonder. What happens to these people? He couldn't afford the truck in the first place, but he still got financing for one. Is he just going to pull up with another unaffordable truck next week?
