Yes, I recall some minor performance issues when I played it on real hardware. The DS isn't all that powerful 3D-wise and the game pushes it pretty hard.

You like getting trophies/cheevos? You can do that right now for free: Dragon Quest Series page on RetroAchievements. Looking through the list, I see just about everything we'd want to play, minus the 3DS games, Caravan Heart, Monsters Joker 2, and Torneko PS1.

Yeah but none of that counts towards your overall PlayStation dick score which is the whole reason to want them

I say this as someone who’s done a lot of random grindy bullshit in games he could have put away many hours ago just to increase his overall PlayStation dick score :v:

I am not the biggest trophy guy, but I have a decent amount(19 Platinums only 2 are DQ related) . Would love to get a bunch of DQ ones. I need to get around to getting the platinums for the DQ Builders games.

Yep watched some videos on youtube to confirm the performance. It’s all good I’m having fun although I bet it was even better back in the day with the multiplayer stuff.

Just beat dq5. I was told about slime kniggt and it was pretty useful but man, golem came in at level 4 with higher hp, attack and def than anyone else and stayed at the front of the party drat near the entire game

Slime Knight is pretty useful for being solid but not exceptional at both healing and attacking, basically having a warrior’s equipment selection, and a high recruit rate, but I found him slightly overrated compared to the bad apples, who cap out at level 20 but that’s still the entire second generation where they hit hard, get Swoosh for crowd control, and Sap in a game where that’s actually kind of a rare spell.

MightyPretenders

Slime Knight is also recommended for being available really early, almost the beginning of Gen 2. Golem, great as it is, doesn't show up until around the end of that arc.

Though Rotten Apple will probably be the undisputed frontline character up until the Mostroferrato quests are over.

Looking forward at dq6, it looks like Ashlynn and Nevan have basically all the mage and priest spells, respectively, by default. Is it really recommended for them to go down mage and priest?

I caught a metal slime on my very first try and it basically ruined the game. Nothing could do more than 1 hp of damage to him.

To make them sages, yeah. Probably don’t go down the mage vocation tree first for Ashlynn, or vice versa for Nevan.

Real best monster recruit is the king cure slime. Roll that giant green ball out the wagon when you need some heals then roll it back in. Or give it a metal king sword and have it do appreciable damage between heal us all.

I've not played any of them, but isn't that the entire premise of the Mother/Earthbound series?

Also I remember reading a similar tagline from the goon-published Fortune Summoners: "This is a game about being young." I believe the post said before its release.

3 benefits of playing the mobile port of DQ5: cloud saves, S-E actually gets paid for it, and there's an exclusive casino prize accessory that increases the recruit rate of monsters. I want to say I read somewhere that they expanded the monster storage space, as well, so you could actually Pokemon the game if you want to, but I'm not sure about that. I hear you about touch controls, though.

Again a very likpatous story
I really should start a new game of DQV and try to finally beat it with Debora. I got to Gotha on my last attempt. I also remember reading a bunch of conflicting things about the chess set and how it supposedly has a "complete" version that's worth more points at the museum but not figuring out if it was real or how to pull it off if it is.

I did do the Dragon Quest 3 Fiesta recently and beat it with a team of Thief, Dealer and Fighter. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was but it was still really tough at some points, especially since I used a male Dealer and his late game equipment choices aren't great. I figured since I never really got into the postgame stuff on my first playthrough of 3 I'd give it a shot. Since I won the Fiesta and no longer have class restrictions I rolled up a Warrior and turned my Thief into a Sage. But maybe I should've class changed my Fighter into a Warrior and just rolled up a new Fighter? I dunno. It does feel like only having one spellcaster isn't great, but my Fighter is incredibly strong, and I kinda don't want to give up my Warrior either since she got Amazon for her personality.

You made a new warrior instead of class changing your dealer?

Twelve by Pies

Like I said, the Dealer was male. I guess a male Warrior isn't that bad though since it avoids the issue Dealer has of having no good endgame armor. It's not like I can get Light Dresses at the moment anyway. The only real downside is he got rolled as Ironman and then had to wait for the Power Belt to get Tough, so even if I changed him into Warrior his strength would be pretty subpar.

Slime knight in DQ5 is crazy powerful and there basically the core of speedruns for the game. I can’t recall any other monster recruit in a mainline game that’s as powerful and so readily available.

I never ended up beating DQV but the impression of Slime Knight that I had was that it was like having another party member that fell off in effectiveness the closer the end of the game.

Dq3 starts off with a underage hero being tasked with saving the world, and only being given a few pennies by a loving king to outfit their party. When has an RPG actually given the hero proper financial backing?

In FF8, the party is gainfully employed (as child soldiers) and instead of turning monsters into gold, they get regular paychecks and can take proficiency tests to get raises and promotions.

All monsters fall off in the endgame thanks to the humans that become available. But slime knight is like a second hero early on, and they're really easy to recruit. Golem is the only other comparable monster IMO and it's not available until considerably later (and also can't heal others).

It's real good that the remakes of DQ5 expand the party size back to 4, so you can roll with more monsters, at least until the late game.

Considering access to both, which version of DQ7 is the one to play? I've heard a lot of mixed opinions and considering how long the game is I'm unlikely to play through both in any sort of succession.
