Orvin posted:I thought this was the general consensus of the thread. If the rest of the world pivots away from the dollar, and the US doesn’t start WW3 in response, the financial economy (only one that really matters to those with money) collapses pretty quick. The consensus is it is happening but pretty slowly. A lot of the more reactionary finance people are crying that it is happening immediately and tomorrow you will have communist yuan!

So it’s more banging the drum to get started on the path to WW3. Because any other option to keep the dollar the world currency causes pain in the short term to those at the top. And that is not allowed.

Dollar is up and the market is moderately down, there are two camps at this point on the Fed. Supposedly, employment numbers weren’t bad enough to impress the market. Ardennes has issued a correction as of 15:14 on Apr 6, 2023 |

I don’t see why the people who matter wouldn’t be comfortably invested into RMB by the time anything really goes into effect dollar hegemony wise. No doomsday. You’re the doomsday.

Through most of the Obamna administration I was a lib; I defended him throwing Wright under the bus (despite Wright being 100% correct). I defended his lack of a platform. I even defended him reaching across the aisle because "the Republicans just aren't being reasonable!". Because I was a slow learner it wasn't until fairly deep in his second term that I began to finally get a clue. August 12, 2017 (Charlottesville) is the crack-ping that finally, belatedly, made me a leftist.

If the rest of the world pivots away from the dollar, and the US doesn’t start WW3 in response, the financial economy (only one that really matters to those with money) collapses pretty quick. It would create a new world economic order that's unrecognizable to anyone alive. The entire economic consensus post-WW2 is built on the US -- with the UK as a junior partner -- guaranteeing free flow of oil out of the Strait of Hormuz and in exchange the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia clears oil transactions in New York City and London. One of the things to keep an eye on/one of the really interesting events in the future is if the KSA detaches from the dollar empire, does the US jump to defend its sovereignty if someone attacks a tanker in the strait? My first inkling that things didn't work the way it was being presented to me was Obama and McCain suspending their campaigns late into the election season (October I think) to go meet with Bush over the financial crisis. The result of the meeting was that all 3 pledged to fully backstop the banks as needed. I remember thinking waaaaaait a minute here, Bush wrecks the economy and the guy who has been running as a "maverick" because he's a different kind of republican from Bush, and the guy who has been running on hope and change as a complete break from the Bush years, all agreed to handle the crisis in exactly the same way? Hmmm.

There was even a follow-up study done on this (published in Nature I think) which found no evidence that any of it influenced anyone or changed anyone's mind. Not that you would need a study to show that Buff Bernie and anti-masturbation memes didn't influence an election, but still nice to have.
