I would really like if those trucks went gas rather than diesel, although local delivery seems EV friendly too.

Diesel exhaust loving sucks and even modern complex emissions systems aren't great.

It can be done, if a school bus can be gas then a box truck can be gas.

yeah those should be electric though (something the people who have hateboners for EVs seem to forget), i have no problem with pushing people towards transit (i hate driving to work too) but there's only so much you can do when a hundred million people live in places like this

I ranted in a dozen threads a few months ago when I rented a Tesla (same cost as a mid size sedan) and it was an awful experience. Couldn't get 150 miles from Chicago on extremely flat roads, managed to find the one single supercharger on the way, otherwise we were going to have to turn off heat entirely and drive 55 to make it. It was a balmly 40 degrees out .

We had a similar situation near the end of last year. We knew we wouldn't make it, but it was the only car they had and we let the counter person lie to us about range so we could call Hertz two-thirds of the way there and complain enough to get them to let us drop the car off at a different location and upgrade for free.

Miserable car, miserable driving experience.

i think we have to understand that some level of private, closed motorized transport is required. my parents for example live at the top of a steep rear end hill and are 80 years old, etc, blah blah. the thing is, evs obviously dont work for the litany of problems already posted. charger availability, whole lifecycle costs, etc. but - evs can work. the twist is they arent as conceived today. the car as we know it is derived from the car as "co-evolved" along with america, which in 1900 was largely rural and so the car grew from this. we can shed this lineage to better serve urban mobility needs. beyond the train, beyond the bus, beyond the bicycle and the other microbility is mediummobility, tracing its lineage back the to 3 and 4 wheel "motorized rickshaw" and it looks like this:

in china they call them mini-evs. in the usa we call them low speed vehicles, lsv.

Wut? Who told you that? They'll probably not clear lead acid batteries for energy density.

Unlike lead acid batteries, they won't degrade from usage, just environment.

I mean, when it's not uncommon for a person to have family 300+ miles away with no public infrastructure like rail to support that type of travel quickly or cheaply, then needing long range cars makes sense.

often it is cheaper to drive once you have a family of at least 4. driving cost doesn’t appreciably change with each additional person that fits in the car.

I can't even get from Chicago to Columbus via rail to see their king tut exhibition. Its insane.

It's a sub 6 hour drive (ok, more with traffic) but airports suck so bad it's like 3 hours to deal with all the airplane poo poo + the cost shooting up with every extra family member that needs a ticket
