Between this and the Leader of the Opposition promoting conversion therapy churches two years in a row, it's astonishing how hard and fast our 'liberal' public sphere is radicalising.

That is bonkers, I really haven't understood just how bad the campaign against trans people has been until now. There really are people out there, powerful people that actually want to eradicate trans people completely. It's a real wickedness.

Also I was in WHSmiths and when I came to pay the card reader ask if the cashier had told me about the special offers. It's just supposed to read my card not interrogate me about the drat employees. Disgusting practise.

It's a Brand Experience (TM) nowadays, as is everything else, but the origin is plastic food boxes with runny food-proof lids, yes.

Also they used to sell on the avon/ann summers mlm model where you buy the stock and try to flog them to your mates, which apparently at one point made money rather than just being an excuse to never talk to that person again.

tupperware is what they call the Cowshill region locally.

A lot of Pyrex isn't even borosilicate glass anymore, which was its entire big selling point, so that's just a Brand Experience too if you're not careful.

Also possibly an exploding glassware experience if you have a tempered glass pyrex tray and treat it like a borosilicate one.

quote:

Pyrex (trademarked as PYREX and pyrex) is a brand introduced by Corning Inc. in 1915 for a line of clear, low-thermal-expansion borosilicate glass used for laboratory glassware and kitchenware. It was later expanded to include kitchenware products made of soda-lime glass and other materials.

In 1998, the kitchenware division of Corning Inc. responsible for the development of Pyrex spun off from its parent company as Corning Consumer Products Company, subsequently renamed Corelle Brands (and would later merge with Instant Brands). Corning Inc. no longer manufactures or markets consumer products, only industrial ones.

Both trademarks, PYREX (all uppercase) and pyrex (all lowercase, introduced in 1975[1]), were used interchangeably in the marketing of kitchenware products made of both borosilicate and soda lime glass,[2] in addition to related accessories, for several decades. The latter trademark is now used for kitchenware sold in the United States, South America, and Asia. In Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, a variation of the PYREX (all uppercase) trademark is licensed by International Cookware for bakeware that has been made of numerous materials including borosilicate and soda-lime glass, stoneware, metal, plus vitroceramic cookware.

In the past, the brand name has also been used for kitchen utensils and bakeware by other companies in regions such as Japan and Australia.

lmao, what a mess

Is that Corning as in Gorillaglass, the phone screen material everyone was going a bit nuts about a few years (probably over 10 thinking about it) ago?

Smiths are particularly bad with this: I'm given to understand that if the cashiers don't manage to sell the 'special offers' littering the till area it doesn't go well for them.
If you do get the question, just answer 'yes' whether they did or not.
Same with those customer surveys you get after you've interacted with a customer service person. They can get heavily penalised for not getting high stars or ratings.

Yup, they've been working on chemically strengthened specialist glass types for a long time, like at least the 60s aviation era.

Well that explains why the "pyrex" jug I used at uni exploded on me when I'd been assured they don't do that.

I need to let people know I've just spent entirely too long trying to figure out why 'lavatory glassware' existed, and if it was the sort of thing I would have seen at my nanna's house along with her 1920's-style phone, clothes wringer etc

Yeah. I think it's not really a selling point now because all phones use Corning glass and see way less smashable than a decade ago. Still very possible though if it takes a bad hop

Front line poster Brown Moses was cruelly struck down after a Russian dezinformatsia campaign on Something Awful, run by the Putin sympathiser Jeffrey of YOSPOS. Our boys in the North Atlantic Fellas Association will be hosting an online vigil later this evening to mourn this casualty.

You probably won't be surprised to discover that the metrics around these things are curated specifically to ensure nobody in store-level management ever qualifies for a bonus as well

Always rank it whatever is highest, anything lower than the highest rating is treated the same as the worst score, at least at store level. The sort of people who overthink everything until they can't possibly give their Sandwich Interaction Experience a 5 out of 5 because nothing can be perfect in an imperfect world are the terrors of these systems.
