Boba Pearl posted:The art right now is very samey unless you want Anime porn, so people want to say it'll never get better, because the alternative is terrifying. it's hard to see stuff like what midjourney is capable of producing and not see the alternative hurtling towards me like a freight train. it'd be one thing if these improvements were the result of several years of hard labor, but the difference between the outputs at the start of this year and right now are an almost exponential increase in demonstrable functionality part of the reason i've decided to go whole hog into gamedev is because it's hard for me to envisage a world where i can make a living off the already saturated commissions market when literally anyone with the necessary AI wrangling skills can churn out equivalent work in minutes to what would take me hours to do conventionally. there'll probably remain a niche market for specific art styles or prestige commissions, but i'm thinking that people who just want an anime version of their MMO character aren't gonna care too much about the provenance so long as it's cheap dervival posted:anyways the big thing I'm curious about with AI is if you could generally taint it (or all training sets) with shibboleths without marking all language with it. I can't think of any good way to do it with any sort of fidelity, especially with amount of proliferation that's already going on nowadays, but it would have been nice to have the equivalent of Gram-staining for the field. i believe there's a few techniques out there that effectively "smear" an image so that AI scrapers won't properly register it as anything, although it both degrades the quality of the posted image and, i imagine, will end up requiring an escalating arms race as models are trained to work their way around the filters Vermain fucked around with this message at 18:27 on Apr 19, 2023 |

God drat this looks good, the other trailer looked good it was just a suspicious amount of walking slowly while some story poo poo seemed to be happening. on a slightly related note, it sucks that Aggressive Inline never got the same respect that the Pro Skater games did. I loved that game so much and this trailer gives me some of the same vibes in addition to the JSR vibes.

Cause the more I think about it, the more I see it as some sort of protection racket.

If you throw a paper texture on it, then you'll gently caress up the training data and you don't have to pay anyone for it. There's also a paper pattern that looks fine at full resolution, but at 512 lines up to look incredibly awful. Boba Pearl fucked around with this message at 18:41 on Apr 19, 2023 |

ALSO tomorrow both Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak and Wild Hearts are getting updates. sunbreak is getting Amatsu and Risen Shageru Magala, plus the usual anomaly and event quests and stuff. Wild Hearts is getting Deathhaze Gloombeak, and Serial Quests which are like a gauntlet style quest to try and kill as many monsters as fast as you can with fewer healing resources. i actually have no interest in the sunbreak update and will be playing wild hearts instead! wow!

AI is something where some of the dumbest people on the planet are super into it so people who want to distance themselves from techbros will trip over themselves with logical fallacies and misunderstandings to talk about how much they hate it and its all very frustrating that every conversation about it is either hyperbolically positive or hyperbolically dismissive Thinking that AI is an extinction-level threat to the human race is legitimately a more nuanced take than the majority of what you see because reaching that conclusion requires you to have actually thought about the concepts involved at more than a surface level

The AI stuff is scary for the future of art, but it's not like we're in a great spot now where a significant portion of art is very cynically made and sold by people who are elitist and privileged and think they're too good to do boring work the way "regular" people do.

my local art community is as healthy as can be considering the greater cultural landscape, and i live in the rear end end of nowhere. artists make stuff all the time and get friendly with anyone that says hi and everyone is constantly encouraged to pursue some artistic skill? I guess that doesn't count if by significant portion of art you mean the places where like 90% of the art money goes to, corporations and NYC exhibits and the like
