This week coming up is Golden Week in Japan, that exciting time of the year when the Japanese get a whole week off work. Man, Japanese work/life balance seems loving atrocious. Anyway, what that means is that wrestling companies are running a lot of shows. A lot of them are big shows with big matches on them. It took a lot longer than normal to write this week's schedule because of that, so apologies for any errors but I really want to go grab a nap before the NFL draft starts in a few hours. Saturday's big show is from New Japan with 2 fun matches headlining the show, Aussie Open vs TMDK for the Tag Titles & Shingo vs Taichi for the KOPW. Sunday is a lot quieter than in a normal week, the big show then is probably All Japan with the final night of B Block in the Carnival. Monday isn't actually a holiday in Japan so it's on the quieter side, but there's Hikari Noa getting to have a deathmatch in TJPW on the Inspiration show. Tuesday is just a show from Ganbare's Joshi promotion. And then Wednesday the holiday starts properly: there's Marvelous at Korakuen, then DDT have a really big card (too big maybe) headlined by Hino vs Yuki Iino apparently in his non-Pheromones guise. It'll be lovely to have ALL OUT Iino back, just being a hoss. Then in southern Japan there's Wrestling Dontaku with 5 title matches on the line, topped off with Hiromu challenging SANADA, although ZSJ vs Jeff Cobb could easily steal the show. And there's a mystery partner in the NEVER 6 Man Title match, teaming with Okada & Ishii. Is it the guy who has been in all the weird videos they've been showing on the current tour? Is it just El-P? We'll see. And then back in Tokyo Freedoms have a Korakuen Hall show topped with the returns of both Minoru Fujita & Takayuki Ueki to deathmatches, and a King of FREEDOM Title match between Hirata & Sasaki. Thursday has Big Japan's big annual Yokohama show which looks a lot of fun, while NOAH are running Sumo Hall & have the return of Go Shiozaki, plus Jake Lee defending the GHC HW Title against Marufuji. There's a Stardom show with 3 title matches, AZM vs Mei Seira, MIRAI & Sourei vs Hazuki & Koguma, & Shirakawa vs Natsupoi, & then All Japan have the final night of A Block action, plus the finals of the Junior Tag Battle of Glory. Friday? We've got Dead or Alive from Dragongate topped off with the great Shun Skywalker vs Madoka Kikuta match. Sawyer Wreck challenges Mizuki in TJPW, & Ganbare Pro crown their first ever Tag Team champs! Problem is, all the paths to salvaging him would involve giving him dominant victories over people who have shown no inclination to let him have dominant victories over them. Like, you could do a story where he "hits bottom", feels like the fans have abandoned him, and then goes on a destructive tear where he targets and destroys older heavyweights (a streak that starts at Hideki Suzuki, goes through Fujita and Sugiura, and ends with him killing Marufuji), but that only works if older heavyweights are willing to be destroyed by him. I have no idea how you would find it, but the top two matches of the Friday Ryukyu Dragon show were amazing for the crowd reaction. Big local guys the crowd loves vs. dastardly Dragon Gate outsiders and the crowd really really really wanted their guys to win in the tag title and singles title matches. I had a blast!

I've been busting my rear end on an extremely short deadline, so I haven't had time to watch much this past week. DG had 4/23 & 4/29 house shows which both had some good stuff on them. The 5/3 KBS Hall show will be 100% free on the Network, and will have Shun's "3rd Game" for Kikuta ahead of DoA: They have to team together against KAI & ISHIN, so that should be a good time. Ryukyu Dragon also put out their RDPW 10th Anniversary show for free, which includes Kzy & Jacky defending the Sou Ryou tag belts and YAMATO defending the Ryou championship. Jun Kasai and Tatsumi Fujinami are also on the card, and I haven't watched it yet but I heard the YAMATO vs Gurukun Mask title match is fantastic.
