Because he's coming in straight up and doesn't extend, that's probably a clean hit not targeting the head. Meier leaning forward is considered his own fault. Can Trouba see that and decide not to be a very bad human being in addition to terrible at hockey? Sure. But he doesn't have to. A dirty legal hit. Trouba is a dangerous rear end in a top hat who does not value life but the NHL rules allow for his pathetic, cursed existence to continue.

The NHL considers it legal because there is also body contact. CTE Doctors Hate Him! Trouba discovers one weird trick. Deliver full force check to the head, but as long as you also contact the body, there's no risk of brain injury.

Personally I can think of no bigger punishment to the rangers than being forced to have Trouba play out the duration of his contract (and probably giving him another entirely too big one at the end of it) He's already actively a detriment at every facet of play, and he's only going to get slower and worse positionally to the point where he'll be too busy headhunting to make up for last shift's embarrassment to realize he's already been deked again

Meier tried to purposefully injure a goalie and has a history of being a dirty shithead going back to junior. crying about a legal and clean hit on that guy in particular is extremely funny, especially when he very easily could have avoided it had he been more skilled. also lol at the Pens writer getting in on it. unmatched as a posting organization. total commitment to the bit

It's cool that the Devils won a series playing amazing defense in their wins. They're covered and thought of as a run and gun offense team but it gets lost that they played excellent defensive hockey all season and are currently icing six really solid defensemen, which is why Luke Hughes isn't in the lineup yet. They also have great defense from their top six forwards -- notably, Hischier/Tatar/Bratt are elite defensively.

I'm sorry everyone, better things are impossible so really we should just cheer and endorse headhunters. It has been made clear that it was a legal hit. It has also been made clear it was a dirty hit that could have been avoided if the dude laying on the hit wished it so. We can wish for a safer sport, it is okay. You are not a lovely fan for wishing for better brains on the ice. I've no issue with Timo getting loving blasted. I've issue with zero reluctance to just lay it square on his goddamn face.
