I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?

About 10-12 years ago, a goon made a thread about a box of slides they bought at an antique or pawn shop for next to nothing (although I’m also thinking they found the box at a deceased relative’s home they were cleaning out). They scanned and digitized almost all of them and found the slides to be from some sort of promotional parade put on by Budweiser beer, and from the looks of the era, it was circa 1980-1984.

It was like a small town parade with Budweiser logos and cans visible everywhere and I think even the Clydesdale horses were in some pictures. It was an interesting time capsule of the early ‘80s and I’m certain the pictures were probably on Waffleimages and no longer exist, but does anyone remember this thread?

Seems to be https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3197231 but it's worse, the images were self-hosted so they're even more gone. Funnily enough OP sold the slides on ebay and someone other goon picked them up thinking they were cool and they should be posted on SA which is why some of them ended up on flickr in https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3206632. They only got through 48 of them, though.

Does anyone know popular camp songs? What about popular camp songs in French?

I've had the cadence of this tune (but not the actual lyrics because my French is terrible) stuck in my head for a few days. Used to work at this summer camp and one of the Quebecois counsellors brought in this song. Near as I can tell, it's about cross-country skiing, and the repeat-after-me lyrics seem to describe putting on or taking off your ski gear. There are interludes where you mime the act of skiing, and the last lyric, in English, the only part I remember, is "PANTS OFF."

Yeah, super weird I know, but despite not knowing basically any of the words, it's an earworm.

My boyfriend has a white whale, in his words: It's a segment from something that I always thought was Sesame Street, but have never found reference to. Shot on location (i.e. not animation) in an empty playground. There's a door in the middle of the grass. I remember it as a white door with a white door frame. I don't remember what actually happens with this door. My memory of it is eerie and mostly silent; I can only hear ambient outdoor sounds. Seems like something I could have dreamed but I swear it was a recurring segment.

Some one else answered about those pictures in particular, but if you just want a random assortment of 80s photos, you can't go wrong with the Internet K-Hole. Well, unless you don't want to see a few naked pictures mixed in with the others. It's usually not excessive, but every now and again there might be a series of nude shots.

It's not a parade, but I did happen to see one Budweiser themed image while I was scrolling through.

There was a short story i read in highschool (1999) about a couple drinking and watching the sunset from there kitchen. It goes on to describe the red hues being cast in the room and their pulse as they sat in silence. I might be a little off in my description, but i only read it once. Id love to read it again if anyone happens to know it.

Oh yeah, I’ve definitely seen Internet K-Hole, but it’s a site I forgot about so thanks for reminding me about it :)

If people are bored and want to watch actual time video time capsules of yesteryear without commentary, this YouTuber digitizes and uploads B-roll news footage of people going about doing the most mundane things that was obviously shot for news segments at the time, but they are the full length B-roll footage and they rule. Who wouldn’t want to watch people waiting in line for gas in 1979 or checking out the Nintendo Power Set in 1988?

Could you be thinking of Safety Not Guaranteed? It's a movie, not a short story.

It's based on a joke personal ad that ran in some magazine in the 90's. An editor wrote it to fill space but it was weird and evocative and got shared on Leno and Car Talk, and eventually a movie was made.
