But Lenin said that Russians should wear top hats and imitate the style of the upper class when in the west, rather than go around looking like cartoon communists.

So surely it's the man who wears top hats and imitates the style of the upper class (and has a lot of dodgy financial contacts involving Russia) who is more likely to be the Russian spy.

I think graduates used to wear them in public at some point in the past.

Back when there weren't many and they really wanted people to know that they were an academical.

Like when cardinals walk around with their red hats on in public. Or Walts who are desperate for you to know that they were in the super secret special special forces.

I'm certain I recall a short video of michael gove having to use the wall to prop himself up in the commons, he was swaying more than the texas speaker, was in the rafters though. I'm having a hard time tracking it down.

Merci, chaton!
The first couple of Lower Decks episodes are rough on first viewing because you don't know any of the characters and they're manic and screechy and the writers have tried to cram in too many jokes, most of which are little more than "hey, I just mentioned [STAR TREK THING]!" But it settles down quickly and starts getting genuinely good.

Basically it begins as a shouty cartoon space comedy with Star Trek trimmings, and turns into an actual Star Trek show with more jokes than usual.

Especially when you get into the season 2 finale, that rescue sequence which is just perfect Star Trek, but also making full use of the animated medium to do stuff that they couldn't usually do in a live action show.

Absolutely. The massively condensed second season was still good but it deserved to be given the space it needed.

Time to treat myself to a rewatch and become absolutely obsessed by both Polly Walker and James Purefoy again.

Yeah, it was amazing how good the second season was despite the constraints they were under. I hope another ancient history show like that will come out some time. I just loved how realistic and dirty things were portrayed compared to 99% of stuff where it’s all gleaming marble columns.

The actual radical suggestion would be to turn the lights off between 7am and 10pm. Y'know, encourage drivers to actually pay attention to what they're doing (rather than browsing TikTok 50% of the time while they're at the wheel) and have some consideration for other road users.

Also note the reference to the public-health catastrophe that was Care in the Community.

With a rare bit of charity towards what I think Keith is trying to say, there are a bunch of things you can do to treat appropriate patients well in the community, and it does save money.
The problem - which I doubt Keith or Wes have the brains to fix - is that you can only do that with a shitload more community nurses and GPs than are currently working for the NHS. And, it only works if you have a functioning Social Care system, which this country is an exceptionally long way away from having.
And if you don't have the health staff or the social care staff to make sure patients are safe in the community, then they either stay in hospital until the local council finds a glue merchant willing to set up a care home, or the patients get discharged to get sick again and be readmitted within weeks.

What's the focus group angle with "the big killers, heart disease, cancer, and (very sadly) suicide"?

Like something can be sad and also nowhere near one of the biggest killers, so it's not accurate

so not accurate that it's not even on the list.

Seems a pretty ghoulish tugging on heart strings to make up lies that the numbers of deaths of each are in any way close.
