there will be no cathartic release, there will be no dramatic end, there will only be mass death and suffering on a scale somewhere between ww2 and the pox induced de-population of the americas.

you people want an out so bad you fantasize a much more interesting scenario than is likely. you won't believe how boring it'll be to read news reports of all the heat wave deaths and european democracies collapsing.

you are much much much more likely to die from your 10th covid infection in your 50s than climate change.

if one believes that material conditions will continue to worsen and the level of uncertainty at every level of society will continue to increase (both of which are correct, as we all know), then the sensible thing to do, IMHO, is to try to increase one's level of savings, rather than surrender oneself to the whims of future catastrophes

even if you think there will be total societal collapse in the next X years and that your saved money either will disappear or won't mean anything, you can still prepare for the future in other ways, such as by learning skills that you think will be crucial. that's still far more preferable to saying "gently caress it all" and opting to maximize pleasure today

lot of folks don't actually realise how far north we are because the gulf stream keeps us in relatively mild conditions:

If this badboy stops bringing us that sweet sweet warm water from the Caribbean then even in the UK we can expect a climate to be similar to alaska, even further north is arctic conditions for pretty much the whole year round.

The things you mentioned aren't savings, which you seem to agree is not worthwhile, and I don't know why you would want to increase one's level of savings. It is indeed a good idea to cultivate skills and community and tools required for self-reliance, things that will allow you to have a more comfortable life while most societal systems collapse and burn. but savings are just numbers in a bank computer somewhere, and making that number go up directly limits the amount of resources you have access to right now. Instead of throwing a few grand into deep pointless abyss you could be using that to take classes on metallurgy or building a greenhouse.
