Good grief, I've been spending all morning wondering whether that Benn quote was real or or not.

https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/37721319/stars-jamie-benn-game-3-misconduct-due-unfortunate-play

quote:

"Obviously, didn't want to take a five-minute penalty, but when the game happens fast, emotions are high. Obviously I would've liked to not fall on him and I guess use my stick as the landing point," he said.

Give him 20 games for this lame response.

Well you see, Bunting frequently makes a big scene on the ice about the refs on national tv, which is simply worse than intentionally attempting mortal harm on a person

Yeah the Bunting suspension looks more and more odd with each passing Player Safety decree.

Maybe he was just a complete asshat during the meeting?

Bunting knocked a guy out of an entire series. Like it or not the panel views injuries as a higher punishment opportunity. Stone not missing any time saved Benn from a longer suspension.

Questioning officiating can bring the game into disrepute and we can't have that.

It was silly that Pietrangelo only got one.

But really, never try to make sense of the NHL Wheel of Justice. There is no consistency, nor any hope of being consistent. All we can do is be happy when it feels right, then clear our minds for the next one.

Two games is fine.

Remember when Brendan Shanahan tried to bring logic and consistency to suspensions and the owners got so mad about it he jumped ship to the Leafs and the league immediately went back to the “standard” we have now

There is no logic to suspensions but the second game is definitely because Benn’s response wasn’t in line with being a good hockey-culture-Captain

SHUT UP AND PLAY HOCKEY
It's genuinely hilarious.

Okay, your team is down 2 games. But you now have 2 games at home. All you have to do is win your home games.

And your team is down 1-0 in the current game. But there is 58 minutes to go. Plenty of time to get it back.

And he basically does something that costs them the series.

When you factor in the unnecessariness of it, the timing, the severity, the blatancy, the results... it might be the worst individual penalty ever taken.

Take an accidental puck over glass delay of game that decides a series. Now multiply that by 30. You have what happened yesterday.
