This video of a guy going to Bahrain for the F1 race popped up on my YouTube:

https://youtu.be/Ptg_CyaUFtk

His conclusion is that seeing the world is its own reward. My conclusion was that I’m not sure I would go to that race even if it was free. But the hotel where you can jump into the water to swim from your balcony looked pretty cool.

I saw they released some cheaper Singapore tickets. Anyone know of any affordable-ish places to stay close to the action? I assume everything on the weekend will be gouged to hell, so I’m curious if it’s even worth looking into

It's weird, there's no like, normal shops. Everything is some luxury store selling $100k something, even at the stores you pop into to grab cigs.

I wouldn't call it claustrophobic, but until you've wandered around enough to know where the public elevators are it's rough to go up and down the streets.

Yeah I'm just curious what somewhere like Monaco is actually like. I imagine Monaco is heavily resting on laurels and wonder how much of it is tasteless crap preying on rubes versus actually nice things for people who live there, and not just necessarily the super rich.

They did have a nice bus system and apparently a really strong UBI for all the ‘normal’ people that live there. I was mostly around the circuit but I didn’t see a grocery type store at all. Definitely a fuckload of kiss the ring stuff just up about the city but I don’t really have another royal place to compare to like that.

Makes sense. I read somewhere that Charles and his family were able to afford to live there through subsidized housing offered by the government.

Who is advising Hamilton on this pseudo science crap. Why in the world do you need an ice bath after your event is done.

I drove through Monaco some years ago in the summer, stopped for a nice lunch, won 200 euros in the casino and went on my merry way. Housing is all stacked on itself and there are super cars driving around, but otherwise seemed kind of whatever?

There are some markets by the bottom end of the circuit, I stumbled in and grabbed a torte the other night. I think there's one by the hotel and casinos, but if you're already there France proper is like 5 minutes walking and they've got a bog standard carrefour

There's a McDonalds at the entrance of the tunnel with a games arcade that sprawls over a few underground levels. Or at least there was last time I went. Other than that I remember their being a fairly well stocked and sizeable supermarket underground at Mirabeau and a Davidoff on street level above for cigarettes.

There is also a steak n shake at the bottom of beau rivage that actually sells tickets to the race apparently. It was pretty wild and tbh I’d consider it

Fernando is in good form. Hamilton less so but the car is horrible.

This track is one where the driver makes the most difference (IMO) so Verstappen clearly is the best here. In addition, the RBR19 wasn’t as dominant as elsewhere this season. It’s the one place where the lacklustre Mercedes-Benz engine didn’t significantly effect the Aston-Martin.

Is there a list of places that do this? Seems like there'd be a ton of hotels/restaurants/etc that might have a great view of the track.
