we’ve been kicked from our shared account but i’m not really sure i’m bothered about subscribing myself, mainly because netflix now has a firmly established reputation of abandoning shows after two seasons regardless of quality, and just has so much chaff to choose from it’s difficult to even find the good stuff in the first place, which is cancelled anyway
correct

Netflix has made their bed with their reputation of being cheap and cancelling all scripted shows after a season or two that it’s like why bother. the few shows I did like were years ago and all cancelled anyways

the only thing you should be doing is buying nflx puts

I had discovery plus for a few months a year or two ago but I elected to pay the extra like 5 dollars or something for ad free. It became immediately evident that these reality tv shows are just re-cutting poo poo that happened earlier in the episode after an ad break but the ads sort of break it up in your brain so you don't notice as much.

oh yeah, watching any reality show without commercial breaks you realize that the 22 minute episodes are about 7 minutes of actual content, just like the first time you rip all the ads out of a magazine and look at what's left.

its like wireless charging tech.

we already have a magic thing that takes electrical energy from one place and puts it in another place with super high efficiency and almost no radiative losses it's a wire.

We already have a thing you look at to see stuff. it's a screen.

its like tesla getting rid of tactile things like buttons and stalks. if the world didn't have buttons only capacitive touch screens and you invented buttons you'd be a hero. If the world only had goggles and you invented the screen? Thank gently caress what a godsend

the wire would be black magic if wireless power transmission was all we had. You mean just a piece of metal will carry they energy with almost no loss??? a loving dumb string of metal??? I don't need to worry about resonance it just works??/???"

I mean, at least wireless charging does have some cool use cases and allows for totally watertight devices and not having to accommodate a charging port on a smartwatch. I would say nonproprietary but lol the Apple watch can't be charged on a Qi pad anyway, but at least it's less likely to break that a lovely Fitbit charger.

there are lots of examples but the best one for me is “the OA”, genuinely one of the most interesting shows i’ve seen (although really slow grim opening episodes) and was on of the first “word of mouth” netflix hits, but even with a five season story arc already drafted, a brilliant group of actors and an apparently rabid fan base it was still cancelled

However, star Jason Isaacs (who played Dr Hunter Aloysius Percy or 'Hap') has confirmed The OA has really been cancelled – but not because not enough people watched it.

“I was crushed (when The OA was cancelled),” he told RadioTimes.com. “It's one of the odd things that happen in the new media world that you're cancelled not because of numbers, but because of other corporate needs.

"Netflix needs to build subscribers and they make their decisions on a bunch of other things, which are not to do with the number of people watching, more to do with how many people they can get to sign up

Also a long running show is more expensive. Actors and writers can demand more pay. I also think it's one of the issues for the writers' guild strike. You pay writers far less for streaming episodes for the first two seasons.
