It became immediately evident that these reality tv shows are just re-cutting poo poo that happened earlier in the episode after an ad break but the ads sort of break it up in your brain so you don't notice as much.

Also a long running show is more expensive. Actors and writers can demand more pay. I also think it's one of the issues for the writers' guild strike. You pay writers far less for streaming episodes for the first two seasons.
