I miss the concern trolls who reprimanded us for not doing more to "save" the biosphere. Where did they go? Has poster biodiversity fallen so far?

Might as well just roll the dice with geoengineering at this point. The only real thing stopping it is that there's noone to send the bill to, can't really make private profit from it. All the ethical and ecological concerns would never stop it.

let us take as a given that near-term human extinction is inevitable, and hence the only possible audience for human endeavors is some future sentience. i posit that there is only one worthwhile endeavour left to us, in light of the circumstances of our passing: start making up excuses

Hoesung Lee is stepping down as IPCC Chair in July having successfully steered us on a course to remain below 1.5 degrees. Somehow the selection of the person leading the global effort against climate change is not newsworthy, anywhere really, but the four candidates to replace him are: Jean-Pascal van Ypersele - https://apps.ipcc.ch/fp/_readcv.php?t=VAN%20YPERSELE_Jean-pascal_CV_1680797878.pdf Jim Skea - https://apps.ipcc.ch/fp/_readcv.php?t=SKEA_Jim_CV_1680711906.pdf Thelma Krug - https://apps.ipcc.ch/fp/_readcv.php?t=KRUG_Thelma_CV_1681154599.pdf Debra Roberts - https://apps.ipcc.ch/fp/_readcv.php?t=SKEA_Jim_CV_1680711906.pdf The only one I was familiar with before was the Belgian candidate since he ran against Lee last time. He certainly seemed the better choice in that contest and his platform of having a platform (and real gripes with the status quo) and a background in goddamn climate science presumably means his candidacy is doomed.
