I built a couple of those advanced carrier consoles, haven't actually tested them yet. They look very promising for a more passive playstyle.

The question is... what ship to build and use them on? Connie is right out as I don't want to break the build on it. I have a freebie fek'Ihri dreadnought carrier from a while back, unused. Could try and get my hands on the T6 tholian carrier of course. Those are always nice lookers. But then the hiawatha class space [redacted] leapt out and slapped me across the forehead. I don't have one yet and no point until I force myself to get all the other necessary build parts but I think that one must be the winner. A nice ferengi green baseball vanity shield of course.

Best bet would probably be a pure sad obsolete-style 3/3 science carrier really since you're getting as much out of stuff that boosts weapon damage. Can't push the scihole stuff as far either without a secondary deflector but it's easy enough to take a boosted up grav well with a bunch of control expertise and just sort of sit in place while the fighters do all the actual work.

The Donnie/Disco D7 are the best simply because they have a ton of space for the consoles. Any MW carrier can equip two more than their Eng slots if brought to T6-X.

I might grab the fleet Ra'donaire on one of my alts who hasn't spent their free fleet modules yet. It won't be as effective, but being able to use two hangars of drone ships would be amazing.

Remind me what the game does to Elite TFOs to make them more annoying ? I vaguely remember a significant boost to the HP of everything but beyond that I am clueless. Damage and health boosts mostly, if you’re paying attention to build advice, elites are not anything to be afraid of

Also, hard failure conditions that a large number of pubbies cannot grasp.

Anyway, numbers! This is off a complete spacebar spam minimum effort Valkis with 5 of the lovely new hangar consoles in a random ISE run, using The Only Frigate That Doesn't Suck:
code:
[8:25][System]P[4024360@1802557 Adamus Faber@Preechr] x 1: Damage: 14145918.0, DPS 73294.9, Shield Damage: 4084681.8, SDPS 21164.2, Seconds 19

[8:25][System]Pets

[8:25][System]Pet Total x 61: Damage: 31733503.0, DPS 164422.3, Shield Damage 11244813.6, SDPS 58263.

[8:25][System]Total Damage: 45879421.0, Total DPS 237717.2, Total Shield Damage 15329495.4, TSDPS 79427.
Not the most thrilling parse ever, I'm sure, but note that my pets savagely out-DPS'd me, doing a combined DPS and SDPS of over 222k by themselves. Compare to one of the pubbies in the same run:
code:
[8:25][System]P[422229@1138051 St'vek@CaptExpendable] x 1: Damage: 4230256.5, DPS 22501.4, Shield Damage: 529468.3, SDPS 2816.3, Seconds 18

[8:25][System]Pets

[8:25][System]Pet Total x 20: Damage: 2826543.6, DPS 15034.8, Shield Damage 132033.3, SDPS 702.

[8:25][System]Total Damage: 7056800.1, Total DPS 37536.2, Total Shield Damage 661501.7, TSDPS 3518.
In conclusion, a loadout of two romulan drone hangars is worth approximately 5.4 pubbies.

You can get permanent damage that acts as a permanent debuff unless you happen to have some spare parts in your inventory to get rid of them, or visit an engineering station at a space station.

Has anyone looked at the (edit - advanced) science consoles that boost damage? Any good? I built a few (mk2 still due to non upgrade event) but I've never been a science boater person. So I can't tell if they were a waste or a good idea.

These added about 2000 damage to the secondary deflector, spore explosion, and various sci clickies. Gravity Well III scored an additional 1500 or so. They're a decent replacement for some of the less interesting clickies but I would t sacrifice something like the Delphic console or the Borg vortex.

The sci ones struggle a bit. They increase damage based on your EPG, but take up sci console slots, which is where a lot of your big EPG boosts are coming from. There are a lot more trade-offs inherent in using them than there are for the advanced eng consoles.

A YouTuber threw a carrier together with 6 or 7 of those consoles and the valkyrie fighters (From the Norway? I think? I don't have that ship) and was doing about 200k+ dps pets alone in a testing environnment.

Those two are the best ships in the game, bar none. I mean there's probably a handful with better damage I guess but they're still the perfect combo of offense, defense, and mobility in the most classic of Trek ship frames. And that was before the new engineering consoles!

The only real problem is that the Disco D7 doesn't let you give it a giant tacky 60's warbird decal instead of the klangon logo. :colbert:

One caveat. This testing was on the tribble test map, with unshielded targets with infinite health that don't fight back. Useful for doing controlled DPS testing, but not necessarily representative of what you'll see in real play. Notably, the console's bonus goes up with pet rank. If you can't keep your pets alive, they won't help very much. Expect the Scramble Fighters trait to get even more expensive for the pet immunity it gives.

Memories of the old T5 patrol escort being the last ship released before the T6's dropped.

However since T6-X is basically already T7 I don't think we'll see that happen again. Maybe a T6-X-plus-plus using another one time cash money token.

Speaking of upgrading things I have a question about the Elite BOff upgrade. Im assuming that a boff gets whatever +xx stats are on whatever kit you give them but what if the kit has some sort of click power, will they use it? and do they get whatever extra powers/buffs there might be from using multiple pcs of or an entire set of ground gerar, ie Breen Cryo Shaper ?

Boffs can definitely use the full set of Breen Cryoshaper; I’ve seen them trigger the ice armor ability and they blaze away at ludicrous speed. I haven’t been paying attention but I can’t see why they couldn’t use kit clickies.

I think the best place to look for builds is here https://www.sto-league.com The info in the wiki is accurate but you don't want to take build advice from random people. Good news is once you understand the basics (what skills to put where, what basic consoles are good), the game is so easy even the worst ship in the game will be able to comfortably clear all content.

STO Wiki is the non-fandom wiki and its being updated regularly.

STO Better is another guide site more geared towards F2P or small spenders.

If you start playing now, you ought to be high enough level to join the summer event, which can get you the fire-breathing ship I posted above for free as a T6 ship. T6 being the best level of ships you can get generally, you'll only get up to T5 ships playing normally for free, but you can do all the normal content in a T5 ship.

Yeah you level up really fast early game, so I wouldn't worry too much about not being leveled enough for the event if you play regularly for a few days.

T6 ships can also be used at any level, so once you unlock it you can hop into it, and do the same for any alts you create.

Also, if you're starting off now they're running a promo thing for the next week or so where any new TOS characters started during this event get bonuses as they level up and unlock some extra boosts, including a few that can be real handy at the endgame. (I think you have to start the character and complete the tutorial missions by the 29th to qualify)

TOS characters basically become the same as other Starfleet characters once the tutorial is over (at the end of the tutorial mission set they get thrown into the 25th century and the main game), after that they just keep a few bits of TOS aesthetic flair like the original series transporter effect.

So yeah, that's an option if you want.
