I think it's also finally clicking with people that you can't call forty year olds "young" anymore.

My understanding is the companies in america that are finally giving us a domestic molybdenum-99 supply are doing it through lame nerd neutron bombardment. We can't even build a loving reactor anymore!

its always projection. rich people are the most "entitled" group of people possible. they have tons of money and think they earned it through a perfectly fair system that rewards hard work, meanwhile millions of people literally die from their own lack of money despite working harder than the rich people, its just their jobs are deemed poor people jobs and thus they deserve to be poor.

The old(er)-heads I work with love to talk about how they were medics making 9$/hr in the late 80s and I’m like YEAH DUDE RENT WAS LIKE 200 A MONTH FOR YOUR OWN APARTMENT.

Now even making high 20s it’s hard for my colleagues to find solo living spaces around here, because studios rent for 1800+ and require first and last months rent and non refundable deposits, along with absolutely spotless credit.

The future loving sucks.

about two weeks ago there was this big trending post on local social media about how zoomers were asking for starting salaries right out of college that all sorts of small business owners and HR types claimed was way too high

and the reasoning always come down to one of two things:

1. "companies are never going to pay you that because people are paid based on their skills and contributions"

2. "companies are never going to pay you that because no business could afford it"

now the latter one is laughable on its face, but the first one especially is like; gently caress you, nobody gets paid based on their "skills". people are paid based on the minimum that the company can get away with and can badger people into thinking is acceptable. It's never about merit!!!

i'm old enough to remember when we hired people and viewed training them as an investment so giving them yearly raises, extra vacation after 5/10/15 years of service, maintaining a quiet work environment (i had an office! as a junior!), providing a pension, etc was important to get dividends from that investment

poo poo has changed a lot in the last two decades, i don't even get rrsp match anymore

And I feel almost no support from the country as an expat, in terms of resources for handling taxes and other residency matters.
