My ex was addicted to Reddit. Every spare moment he had, he was looking at it. I was afraid to break eye contact while talking to him because he'd straight up whip his phone out and start scrolling it at the slightest pause in conversation. I'm pretty sure he had untreated ADHD, but still. I've been wondering how he's doing with the blackout. Is he forced to confront his existence in the quiet moments now?

I saw a comment once in subredditdrama from someone who moderated a bunch of Harry Potter subreddits who said they weren't even a fan of Harry Potter, thought JK Rowling was a horrible person and was annoyed at getting harassed due to his role in those subreddits. I always thought this admission was strange - what motivates someone to moderate a subreddits dedicated to a fandom you have no interest in, especially when you have personal issues with the creator of the fandom? Like the dude was basically doing Rowling a favour she never asked for and getting harassed as a result - why do that to yourself? It still boggles my mind.

That is utterly bizarre. Maybe some misguided sense of "the greater good" or something? Like, "it's a dirty job but someone's gotta do it," maybe? I generally avoid reddit unless it pops up in search results or something, so am not really familiar with it.

I've been using this script for tamper monkey on Firefox mobile to redirect to compact reddit: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/466865-redirect-to-compact-reddit Who knows how long that will last, but at least it's not their poo poo app and poo poo mobile site that pushes the app. When that dies I guess I'll move back home here for good. You guys didn't turn my room into an office right?

Organizing a blackout with an expiration date was a bitch move so I hope people burn the place down with goatse What are the subreddit mods going to do when their 48-hour blackout finishes and nothing has changed?

Fashinated posted:This didn't take long lol This is kinda wild because it’s placing so much importance on the specific subreddit. Plenty of subreddits have been replaced naturally by subreddits of the same topic due to drama or something else. The subreddits that went private in protest would inevitably start again under a new name fairly quickly. Reddit not allowing that to happen shows that these moderators have power. Also, what does that do to do community in the subreddit?

Yikes. Well, /r/soccer is open again, they started a megathread of sorts discussing the blackout and it's just thousands of comments complaining about everything possible. "This blackout achieves nothing", "just stop using reddit you nerds", "you're pussies for reopening". I hate the fact that it's at its core a really tight implementation of a news aggregator on any subject you can think of while being filled to the brim with insufferable pillocks. I wonder if there's a trick being missed here, and that the best way to enjoy it is to just lurk without going anywhere near the comments.

The trick is to immediately unsubscribe from every subreddit that has over a million subs If there's a r/truesoccer subreddit it's almost certainly where any decent discussion about soccer takes place

On any remotely popular subreddit, yeah, there's not much point posting and comments are pretty awful. I found the best way to enjoy Reddit was to participate in pretty niche (mostly shitposting) groups. Places where you could sort by new.
