It helps with implants etc., but you do know that you can just get one character to unlock blue 336 mods and then buy them for any other character right? That ultimately takes care of most of the gearing-up hassle.

I should actually learn how all this works, the thing is I'm still just chipping away at story content... and constantly re-rolling to see other stories.

You absolutely don't need to worry about gear until you're doing serious endgame content. I mean difficult raids, Master Mode Flashpoints and coordinated PvP, if you're just doing easy mode raids and story you don't need to waste any time with gear.

If you are starting to do challenging endgame subscriber content Swtorista has a guide on how to gear solo

But I cannot emphasize enough how gear is close to meaningless in this game and there is zero reason to grind out gear if you're not doing content that requires it.

Does it not make a huge difference in doing dailies or daily heroics? Well I imagine like the implants and tactical might.

Tactical and Implants are nice, but when you're doing dailies nothing stays alive for you to notice an increase in DPS. Tactical is nice for utility mostly, IE on my Operative I use Volatile Strike for almost all content, because it does a huge burst of damage up front, but it's not recommended for normal PvE content.

Edit - I should say I'm comparing high end endgame gear to the starter 324 gear you buy from the conquest vendor.

If you're leveling a class for funsies with a friend, is it worth it at all to try a DOT spec? I've been doing a Plasmatech Bounty Hunter and my friend's been questing with me as a Lightning Sorcerer, and rare is the enemy that lives more than 3-4 GCDs.

I did some research and it looks like Plasmatech doesn't even get one of its two dots until 60 anyway, which doesn't help a whole hell of a lot at 26.

If you want to learn it, sure, everything is easy leveling up. But yeah, you really won't get the full experience unless you're fighting boss type characters. With PT/Vanguard specifically I'd defintiely recommend AP/Tactics leveling with a swap to Pyro/Plasma at max level.

DoTs will rarely have time to tick in story mode as you've noticed. Some DoT specs also have good AoE or DoT spread which can make it faster to cut through the endless hordes of low level mooks, or deal with additional enemies that spawn in during boss fights.

Any DPS will be fine for levelling though, if everything dies in 3 seconds so your DoTs didn't do much well, that's not exactly a problem, albeit it's kind of frustrating sometimes.

How is a dot spec like plasmatech in PvP?

Both Vanguard DPS specs in PvP are glass cannons in the truest sense of the words...with the caveat bring the player not the class they tend to be weak when alone and op when backed by good support.

The primary defense of Tactics is to burst your opponent down quicker than they do you, Plasmatech doesn't have that burst so generally you're just ankle biting with fluffy DoT damage until someone decides to end you.

Plasmatech's best defense is hoping nobody notices and/or cares about you but you are melee and the Plasmatize/Scorch DoT is a big neon sign pointing right at you so that is unlikely.

In PvP it's bottom of the barrel along with Serenity, Assault Specialist and Sharpshooter.

If you're looking for a DoT spec for PvP specifically Ruffian and Balance are S rank with Vigilance not far behind.

The planet that, to this day, sticks out the most in my head is Imperial Quesh simply because of the too-stupid-to-live Moff. How does someone rise to such a high military position in a society headed by the friggin' Sith and not get killed because of their rampant misogyny?

It's also one of the mandatory darkside picks for me regardless of which type of character I'm roleplaying because feeding him his teeth never gets old.

I gave Tactics a go and it feels a lot better. I still like the idea of DOTs, but the plasma spec in particular doesn't feel 'right' at an early level, like it's missing critical pieces of what makes it work. I also did kinda picture a lot more fire in my head, but that's also what I get for picking plasma over pyro. :v:

It’s also great because as a SW it really lets you flex your Vader muscles since it’s a shot-for-shot recreation of that scene in the original movie. Sadly, you don’t get a line as cool as “I find your lack of faith disturbing” but they can’t all be winners.

my only issue with Tactics DPS is that it feels entirely GCD-dependent, just not a very "smooth" spec to play. It absolutely nukes everything, though.

Good to see reports coming in of various members of the SWTOR team (including nonentity) moving to Broadsword. Surprised to see it all happen so quickly though; when news about this arrangement first broke a few weeks ago, I would've thought the transition would take at least a few months after anything was signed!

I've no doubt they've been working on it for a while, but I don't know how much that means in practical terms if nothing had yet been signed and even people like nonentity weren't in the loop until very recently (if I understood him correctly in Discord).

I've been through something similar, and people that were affected did not know until literally the day it happened. I'm guessing it was all very hush hush and they wouldn't have even known anything until the official announcement went out if it weren't for the leak.

I'm not sure what a "good" guild to join is, but if you want in the Goon guild just to get all the guild perks I can invite Imp side. Casual is all we do. Sometimes you'll see another guildie online and it's kinda cool.

If you're looking for a guild that actually does things I usually recommended AIE.

https://aie-guild.org/swtor/

Good group of guys, very friendly though the guild is PG-13 so no debauchery in chat.

No guild is truly active other than grinding conquest objectives but they do regular PvP and fun nights.

I love goons but we haven't done an organized activity in like 8 years

There's probably an official Twitter post about it but unfortunately due to Elon "I'm A Real Big loving Baby" "Everyone In Their Right Mind Loathes Me" "Idiot" Musk's decision to forbid anyone without a Twitter account from viewing anything on Twitter (and hell if I'm ever getting an account there as long as he's in any way involved), I can only link you to the SWTOR website re: the Nar Shaddaa Nightlife event returning until 22 August:

quote:

The Nar Shaddaa Nightlife event begins today and will be available until August 22nd. During these six weeks, players can test their luck and earn new rewards inspired by the spectacular High Roller Shades!

Players can also earn new rewards, including the High Roller Skiff Mount and the fashionable High Roller Armor Set in a tradeable crate. Both of these rewards can be obtained from the Emperor’s Grace Machines located in the main areas of the Star Cluster and Club Vertica Casinos.

In addition to these new rewards, players can also exchange their Golden Certificates for individual, untradeable pieces of the new High Roller Armor Set. Visit one of the Nar Shaddaa Nightlife vendors located at the back of the Star Cluster and Club Vertica casinos on Nar Shaddaa to get these pieces.

I think free players should still be able to search the list of online players.

Hit 'o' to bring up the social menu and go to the 'who' tab. Search 'goon' and then change the right most column to display guild name and if anyone is on it should come up. Think goon guild is fairly dead though so it might show no matches.

If you really want in the guild for the goon label your best bet is to get into the Discord linked in the OP and ask. I would say 95% of the time you won't randomly find a goon through search, the guilds are dead for the most part.

If you're looking for a guild to do activities and socialize, sadly we stopped being active around 2016. We chat in discord but most of us moved onto other guilds if we are still actively playing.

:siren: Things are happening! :siren: Soonish. Starting this week, SWTOR's servers will be migrating to ~~the cloud~~. This will happen in batches, with Leviathan going first; but probably nobody here's playing on that server, so uh WHO CARES right ?? Wake me up when it's Star Forge's turn.

Regardless, this will presumably make things better in various non-specific ways:

quote:

We have been making strides in our efforts to modernize and update the game. Some of the benefits of this particular migration are:

  • Backend updates that are crucial to the continued health and stability of the game can be streamlined more efficiently
  • The resources required to maintain our current systems can be reallocated to focusing on enhancing the game experience
  • We will be able to leverage and integrate updated tech such as newer hardware and software. Through cloud modernization, we can update numerous tools and automation workflows which will help us maintain the game for long term.
  • Once finalized, SWTOR may be capable to extend its servers capabilities to reach new players
Somewhat more concrete and arguably a lot more interesting to the average player is the news that update 7.3.1 is scheduled for later this month/early next month. It'll bring us some more UI/UX changes, new Cartel Market items (natch), and Galactic Seasons 5. They'll be trying out some new things for this season:

quote:

The new Galactic Season will begin with the launch of 7.3.1, so players will be able to immediately progress through the new reward track. Season 5 introduces a new way to engage with the story told in Galactic Seasons. Rather than tying narrative progression to companion influence, story progression is now part of the Galactic Seasons rewards track. Players will unlock new story missions as they progress through the reward track, with the final mission granted at Season Level 40. Additionally, instead of receiving a new companion, players will interact with several new characters, like an oddly enthusiastic astromech named 3V-1L, while making dialogue choices that affect gameplay. Under the command of a mysterious Master, 3V-1L will test the player through a series of trials, to see if they are worthy of the Master’s teachings of the “dark side”. Whether this is a prank or a serious threat, the player must decide how deeply they will commit to these “dark” trials to uncover the truth.

We are also adding new objectives that will involve companions being set to specific roles, Space Missions, and Operations. There are more objectives available for players who are Subscribers or have Preferred accounts. More details will be shared at a later time!
So that's all right then.
