If I were building a submarine for myself I would want everything to be overengineered and all materials to be multiple factors of strength beyond the requirements but that's just me.

Isn't the "sitting Indian style" thing about the actual country of India, as in the Lotus Position/Half-Lotus/Sukhasana in Yoga? And just the general cross legged style of sitting when meditating? Thats how I learned it in Kindergarten. Where did this thing about "Indian style" being racist about Native Americans come in?
