Its unlikely Wagner is going to be any more capable than Putin at boosting Russian capabilities in Ukraine, its far more likely they pull back slowly to consolidate their hold in Russia.

I suspect there is zero chance of the Russian MoD maintaining coherency to prosecute any portion of the war in Ukraine after this. This is a huge disruption behind the lines. Logistics and loyalties will be *hosed* for months.

"Yes, this is a good deal, not only does it make Wagner look soft, it makes Russia look like a joke at both being unable to suppress an armed rebellion, panicking, and then the rebellion falling limp"

Like, none of the deal makes any sense. They further damaged Russia's image, walked through nearly a complete march on Moscow, and now are backing down and disbanding? What the gently caress? Putin's internal image is basically hosed, the powerful will likely never trust him again, and he's gonna be paranoid about a coup around every corner now.

This is divine comedy level incompetence.

There's no way they let Prigozhin live after this, so it could be he's taking the opportunity to deal with any logistical issues they've had after that fuel dump was blown up. Or Russia actually did manage to get something more frightening than the riot police to Moscow.

Either way, they cannot allow him to live very long now. This is light years beyond anything that Putin could possibly allow to go unanswered.

I'm sure the Ukrainian leadership is very happy, and their intelligence agencies have permanent boners right now from all the loving they can do in the information space. Hey, those generals are actually aligned to Wagner! Putin, you should purge them too!

Earlier in the thread there was mention that the southern district HQ in Rostov that all but gave Wagner cookies and tea as they rolled up to coup the government, had control over a slice of Russian military assets, including strategic forces. Presumably the idea being that if America blew up Moscow by surprise somehow, Rostov elements could nuke America back, or just to spread things around.

Presumably if Wagner had the Bomb, Prig could say "Here's how it is, Putin, I and my secret friend in this big tank with a radiation sign on it say that Rostov is now the People's Republic of Wagneria and we will be glad to let you run troops through it to Ukraine in exchange for a piece of the action."

That seems like it could still happen but I mean, you want to try for Moscow first.

Seriously, I can't imagine anything on this planet that would convince Prigozhin that he won't be getting a polonium delight ASAP if he stands down right now.

Prigo probably just wanted to keep Wagner and get more poo poo out of the MoD and this whole deal does both. He went from being cut off, to being Traitor #1, to being back in charge with a more Prigo-friendly MoD. Putin didn't think Prigo had any power anymore, realized his oopsie, and cut the deal.

Or who knows?

https://twitter.com/michaeldweiss/status/1672665384841871364?t=nGBDZvCPydlIzwNkBosXSw&s=19

And maybe Prigo just goes and fucks off with Wagner to the non-russian/Ukrainian theatres and goes back to plundering mines and killing locals.

The most likely reason for this pause on both sides is that they each need some time to collect themselves before the fighting starts in earnest.

I'm sure both parties negotiated in good faith and now that everything is settled they will conduct the Special Military operation more efficiently than ever before. Also that Prigozhin will definitely be alive on July 1st.

If nothing else, Wagner drove an armored column 600km. Even in relatively friendly terrain they would want to consolidate and go "locate" some gasoline to refill the tanks.
