JcDent posted:I like how Inductii are supposed to be desperation-mode quick recruits and some are just no-drawback better. I've gone on at length in other places about the ridiculousness that DA vets can't get volkite chargers (they were a 1.0 option for all legions as special weapons for vets, the only option vets lost in 2.0 - no, combi volkites are not the same option) but their mass produced child soldier knockoffs can get 20 to a squad. It's "interesting" to see who got the no-drawback upgrades and who got the "worse than tacticals" ones. I feel bad for Raven Guard, screwed by rules yet again.

Can the Iron Warriors inductii take shrapnel bolters? I'd get a sick kick out of a "oops all shrapnel bolters" list.

I don't know if magnetizing the vengeance launcher with four 1mm x 1mm cylindrical magnets was such a good idea. At the very least I probably should have used six instead. Happy with how the end result looks, at least.

I think they’ve gone the different route with Inductii and instead of them being raw recruits, they represent how the training of recruits in the Legions during the heresy diverged from their original template. So you’ve got Ultramarines beginning to look more like the Codex chapters of the post-Heresy, etc. I honestly like this approach better than just Tactical/Despoiler marines but dumber.

Yeah, I was gonna complain about DA goobers suddenly getting armed with the specialist weapon that couldn't hack it in the mainline role for being too expensive.

Then you have things like IW's "too dumb to shoot the right targets" and RG's "too scared to hold objectives under fire" where they clearly did lean into "raw fresh recruits".

The new Mortalis rules are fine, except that Militia is very constrained/unplayable: *Can't take units over 15 models *Militia and Levy squads are the only non-support squad Troops choices. They're 20 dudes. *You're limited to Warrior Elite (Grenadiers lose support) and, hilariously enough, Ogryn provenances. *You can't take Tainted Flesh or Debased Something, as one forbids Grenadiers, the other makes you fill up on Levy. *Or, rather, you can take one of those if the 2nd provenance is Ogryns lol. Though considering that most players are Marines all the time and Leviathans are now street (well, corridor) legal...

Reporting in that I played my 6th 30k game recently and this amount was just enough to understand most of the basics of the game and my army. Still there are a lot of things I keep forgetting, like my special Night Lords reaction and other NL only rules but the games have been mostly enjoyable. Except against Ultramarines and their super terminators with their brutal rocket barrages. Anyway, after so many games I have some idea about what direction I want to take my army, like adding more pinning and increasing unit number in all squads to take advantage of the outnumbering rule of the Night Lords. Maybe one day I will play a game where I wont forget to use all the abilities and rules my units have.

That was a fun game! We both nearly tabled each other, I only carved out a win on secondaries. The big knights felt super rickety for their role, which is apparently "everything your Armigers suck at." Which is a lot more than you'd expect. My friend ended up using his best antitank on my Armigers, which ended up bouncing off flaming hot ion shields. He spread out his damage, and it ultimately cost him. Going into turn three I had 30-50% damage on everything, but had only lost one Armiger, so was playing like nothing had happened. If he'd focused on my two questoris, I'd have been turbo hosed by turn 2. I've heard talking about how broken armagers are because of the unexpected rules interactions (haywire and melta don't get specials, etc) but they've got stubborn Ld7 and 3 attacks. You get them into melee and at best they can pulp two guys if they're Warglaives. The tempest warblade is such a ridiculous weapon. I was like, why the gently caress would anyone go B2B with you? At I2 you're going to paste everybody with a S10 AP2 auto hit. And then we got to I4, and he pointed out that pile in isn't optional. He has to push into B2B so his guys can get obliterated. It's silly. But yeah he left 3 VP on the table by not focus firing down two Questoris, one from Slay the Warlord and two from Price of Failure, (or Giant Killer in the new missions.) That would have given him the game, and also stopped me from accomplishing anything other than the "sit on the objective" one I earned. E: I had a minute to think about it, and two things came into focus 1) armagers are there to kill vehicles and cap objectives. Questoris are there for everything else, especially Marines standing in groups. 2) in turn one, he stuck multimelta jetbikes in my warlord's face and they got shredded on the my turn. If he had driven around the ion shield to the back, I'd have been down 3 VP and a Knight all game. (First turn kill, Warlord, giant killer/price of failure.) moths fucked around with this message at 03:40 on Jun 9, 2023 |
