I probably waste more time laughing at dumb rear end title pairings

I find making builds and then testing the limits of said builds the most fun part of any arpg I play. pre 50 was really all I cared to zoom past because then you have access to all your skill tree points which gives a fair amount of customization. unfortunately due to how level scaling works in the game, you don't really get to push or test limits until you can reach sigils, or if your build sucks.

'fairly large percentage" might be a misnomer. If a few million people bought this I'd say less than half even make it to the end of the campaign. I mean, achievement and trophy days already shows most games lose half their players in the opening act. And amount of people from that chunk who are looking up guides? Nah. Dude in my office is a 'big gamer's who was at a LAN party for Halo recently. He asked me why his rogue got a bow but was still throwing knives and stabbing stuff. Had no idea you could refund skill points. A mass majority of players of this game will never see Lilith.

I generally do side poo poo just for the extra elite spawns, but there are a few that take way too long to resolve. I’ve been running a rotation of whichever Lair/Wound/Conclave/Cultist Refuge/Slums etc. I happen to roll in an vain attempt at finding any of the hats.

Xbox has 34% for the campaing and 35% hit level 50. But then you see a hard fall of of engagement afterwards. Like only 12% of players have crafted an elixir and incense. 12.64% have completed an ancestral and sacred NMD. 9.61 have imprinted from the codex 10 times. Hell, there's some weird stuff of like only 13.90% of Xbox Druids have killed 59 enemies as a werebear and 50 as a werewolf. poo poo only 17% have collected 1000 cinders. Most people going to drop of before the campaign or right after. The people reading guides and running anything post Lilith is going to be sub 20% possibly lower as people get it later of on sale and the numbers stagger. Looking at D3, only 37% killed Diablo and 33.4 killed Malthael. For D2R 17.82 completed Act V. I'm sure this number is especially low because D2 is... D2 and not as accessible to the casual player. But I also have no idea what player numbers are like across all platforms.

There's a ton of poo poo I haven't done because the season is coming and I don't want to burn out on a character that's going to the graveyard. I'm 59 now and never crafted an elixir or incense. I don't think I've imprinted 10x from the codex either because the aspects from dropped items have been so much better. Hell my plan for the next couple weeks is just to chip away at the statues and the map because why invest in this dead character?

Yeah the achievements beyond killing certain bosses aren't the best marker for progression. But they do seem like a decent indicator of post game progress. The level 100 achievement is sub 1% for what it's worth. But there's some wierd stuff that shows people aren't really experimenting. All of the class specific achievements have a lower completion rate that finishing the campaign. And it's stuff like "summon 100 skeletons/mages" and "kill 100 enemies while berserk" it's stuff that implies people are building the character once, and never really changing things up. I'm curious how many people are putting points into skills and never realizing they aren't appearing on the bar. And before you assume that's unlikely, elective mode in D3, where you could use more than one skill from the same group, was an unknown for a LOT of people. But D3 is fairly different. I do wish the game didn't limi you to 6 buttons. Getting extra skills from items would be fun as hell, or even having more options especially for the one point wonder skills would be nice.

Back when I started playing D3 I wasn't talking to any goons, and had no idea about the existence of both elective mode or adventure mode. So all my singular character leveling (a monk with what had to be the most non cohesive build) was being done through repeats of the story mode lmao, with my skill bar looking like hot rear end. I'm to to pin the blame for that on the game not clearly telling me(even though I probably was told once and immediately forgot) about either. It was a terrible way to play the game, and that's the kind of experience that would make a person drop it entirely.

You def get to the point where you can super quickly tell if an item is good or not but I do think they should just put a loot filter in so those items make a macho man Randy Savage oooh yeah noise or some poo poo when they drop. I think part of the reason the endgame feels a little meh is instead of getting that dopamine hit from a sick item dropping immediately after killing a monster you only get it in the middle of town sorting through stuff. I remember Too Human had a loot filter that you could set to auto mulch anything from a certain rarity down. So if you set it to blue, it'd kill every blue, green, and white item you picked up. Like the only notable thing to come from that game, and I haven't seen anyone replicate it ever.
