Djent really appeals to the kind of guy who spends all his time hanging around celebrity guitarists at guitar retreats and clinics and conventions. If you imagine the people who were obsessively following changes to desktop Linux back in the early 2000s, it's that, but they all record music instead of posting screeds on Slashdot now

I say that without judgment of the people themselves, but to say that it's just really not for me

I think if it was just for shred guys it wouldn't be one of the most popular/closest to truly mainstream styles of metal today.

after 2 listens the new blackbraid is really really good.

right now to me best bands in the last year or so are Blackbraid, Orbit Culture, and Hellripper. Toss in Halo Effect if you are melodeath slappy like me. Obviously skipping a million bands but goddamn right now some great poo poo is getting released.

It took a few listenings to get around this one but I'm really loving the new Passeisme, who were the AOTY 2021 for me. Their sophmore album is more technical, often bordering on a skronky riff salad that's not atypical of something mixed and mastered by Colin Marston, which this is.

Their 2021 record ruled and the new one is great too even if they did stuff it absolutely full of riffs.

Colin Marston and Luc Lemay are very into microtonal, mid century western art music but they don’t really explore it extensively in their metal bands.

jute gyte's o.k., but in the process of sampling his stuff the bandcamp algorithm found cryptic ruse for me which is absolutely hitting the spot. wish they did non edo stuff, but I can see needing to refret guitars as being an impediment that loading a scala file isn't
